PLANETEL COMPLETES ACTIVATION OF PUBLIC IPv6 ADDRESSES
The new protocol enables innovative on-line services and a larger number of app functions
Treviolo (Bergamo), 8 June 2021 – Planetel S.p.A., ("the Company" or "Planetel the parent company of the group that bears its name, operating nationwide in the telecommunications sector, listed on the AIM Italia multilateral trading system organised and run by Borsa Italiana S.p.A., announces that it has completed the activation of the new generation public IPv6 addresses throughout its network of connectivity infrastructures and services.
From today, Planetel Customers are able to use IPv6 networks and addresses, improving their performances in relation to the contents delivered by the main global service players and enjoying access to an addressing technology developed to support IoT, home automation and remote access services.
The technology currently used by all providers, called IPv4, is inferior in performance to the new protocol and does not enable the large-scale roll-out of IoT services; what's more, the IP addresses available for Internet users have now more or less run out worldwide.
Therefore, at the international level the large service providers are migrating their services to this new protocol, and Planetel, which has always been at the technological cutting edge and constantly in search of innovative solutions for its customers, is one of the first in Italy to offer the new "IPv6 only" network.

The next step will be to enable all our customers to obtain a dedicated IPv6 connection operating at the global level. We are currently issuing the first IPv6 addresses to customers, and during the fourth quarter we will begin the mass distribution of IPv6 classes to all customers who request them."
The introduction of the new IPv6 protocol also opens out new technical and commercial prospects for Planetel, which is ready to offer advanced services also to its Business customers. Naturally, this update will not cause any problems for those who wish to continue using the IPv4 protocol. Planetel will continue to use IPv4 networks but will offer the new IPv6 networks alongside them, for a more complete service, ready for the new future challenges in ITC.
Anyone may go to https://ipv6.planetel.it, check their IP connection address and find out about the possibility of accessing the Internet via the new IPv6 protocol.
If the system recognises that the network is "IPv6 ready" at the time of connection, it will be possible to visit the Planetel site directly in IPv6 mode at www.planetel.it, and a banner will provide information about the current navigation mode and the IPv6 addresses used.
