ePAT Technologies Ltd: Market Update

Patent Update:

As disclosed in the recent prospectus, a final International Preliminary Examination (IPE) report was issued on 8 August 2016 in which the Authorized Officer testifies that the claims of the ePAT patent application (PCT) define subject matter that is both novel and inventive in light of prior art. This means ePAT now has initial international patent clearance and we are in the process of submitting national filings to obtain a patent in each of the selected commercialization markets including Australia, Europe and the USA.

Clinical Studies Progress:

An implementation study for the use of ePAT commenced in September 2016 at one of our collaborative residential aged care partners involving 36 residents. Assessors comprised of healthcare professionals and care workers. The pilot initial phase of the study involved 10 residents with varying degree of dementias and pain, and 11 assessors. A total of 76 assessments are now complete with positive anecdotal feedback from the assessors. An abstract to present these initial findings has been submitted to the Australian Pain Society conference scheduled in Adelaide 9[th] -12[th] April 2017. The implementation study will be concluded in late November.

ePAT Awards:

ePAT has been selected as a finalist at the Western Australia Innovator of the Year Awards (Mitsubishi Corporation Emerging Innovation Category) in July, 2016 and the outcome will be announced on 2[nd] November 2016 in Perth.

About ePAT:

ePAT Technologies Limited is an Australian based company which is developing mobile medical applications that are intended to provide pain assessment for individuals that are unable to communicate with their carers.

The ePAT business:

The ePAT business has evolved from research undertaken by Curtin University in Western Australia over the past 3 years. ePAT now owns the intellectual property

PO Box 226, Subiaco WA 6904 | Email: [email protected] | www.epattechnologies.com

resulting from Curtin University’s research on the ePAT Apps.

ePAT’s technology, a mobile application ( ePAT App ), uses cameras in smartphones and tablets to capture a brief video of the person, which is analysed in real time using facial recognition software to detect the presence of facial microexpressions that are indicative of the presence of pain.

This data is then combined with other indicators of pain, such as vocalisations, behaviours and movements captured through the ePAT App to calculate a pain severity score.

Due to its ease of use and its reproducibility, it is intended that the ePAT App will be able to be used in the first instance to detect and measure a person’s pain, and then further measurements can be used to monitor the effectiveness of pain management provided to the person.

The ePAT App is being developed and will be rolled out globally in two phases: first, the ePAT App for Dementia for persons who have lost the ability to communicate with their carers, and the second, the ePAT App for Children who have not yet learnt to speak.
