Australian Customs and Border Protection Service selects Objective ECM 8
Objective Corporation (ASX:OCL), an established leader and specialist provider of content, collaboration and process management solutions, today announced that the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service has selected Objective to implement its next generation enterprise content management (ECM) platform, Objective ECM 8.
The three-year agreement is worth approximately AU$5 million initially, with the option to extend the contract up to a total of nine years. Objective was selected after an extensive public tender process which began in early 2011. Objective ECM 8, was built to support Australian government requirements and will be deployed across the entire Customs distributed environment, over 5,000 staff.
Customs and Border Protection manages the security and integrity of Australia’s borders. They create a vast amount of information and records on a daily basis and work closely with other government agencies including the Australian Federal Police, the DAFF Biosecurity and the Department of Defence. The need to effectively manage and share information internally and with other agencies is critical.
Objective ECM 8 is widely used by public sector organisations to gain control of the large amount of content and knowledge that proliferates all levels of government. Objective ECM 8 is also being used to manage business processes and help organisations meet their compliance and legislative responsibilities.

Another important factor in the decision making process was Objective Executive, a highly intuitive, zero training user experience. Executive is delivered in the browser and runs on myriad mobile devices, providing a light touch and compelling alternative to the powerful, feature-rich interfaces for information managers and heavy-use document authors. Objective Executive will deliver faster user adoption and will be used by Customs and Border Protection users that only need to search, read and contribute content.
Under the agreement, Customs and Border Protection will also implement Objective Discover, which will make it easier for staff to find the piece of information they require amongst thousands of search

results. Objective Discover provides faceted search; the ability for people to conduct a familiar, internet-style search, then further refine the search by applying filters for categories, content type or many other criteria based on the metadata and contents of their search results. Discover helps to easily expose information that resides in the document repository but that may have been buried in thousands of search results.
Tony Walls, CEO of Objective Corporation said, “The scale of this contract highlights the confidence that large government organisations have in Objective, our products and solutions capability. Our ability to provide a strategic solution purpose-built for the public sector with ease of use and performance in mind, will help Customs and Border Protection achieve greater efficiency in their day to day operations and contribute to effective border protection for the Australian community.”
