NSI receives prize for making its office in Hoofddorp sustainable

HOOFDDORP, 8 June 2011 - Nieuwe Steen Investments NV (NSI) received an energy label poster by the NL Agency on the Provada real estate fair today. During the final eight weeks of 2010, NSI converted an office in its property portfolio into its new headquarter and, what's more, realized an upgrading of this office from energy label F to A. This upgrading has now been awarded an energy label poster.

NSI views sustainability as a critical success factor of the real estate industry and is convinced that modern business needs to negate the need to move into new premises. Turning an existing office into a sustainable office has been a deliberate choice, also to gain practical experience from the innovative systems and technologies. The new office is, amongst others, equipped with efficient lighting and a lighting control system, intelligent and energy-efficient heating, cooling and ventilation, wind turbines (so called Donqis), solar panels and a state of the art energy monitoring system. These facilities have resulted in the highest energy label that can be achieved, 16% energy from renewable sources, 40% reduction in energy consumption and 90% CO2 reduction.

NL Agency, the Dutch government department responsible for sustainability and innovation, will reward these achievements today by presenting an energy label poster to NSI at the Provada real estate fair. NL Agency awards these posters to organisations that have implemented energy reduction improvements that reinforce sustainability. The award contributes in making sustainability a more visible topic and increases public awareness.

NSI worked in close cooperation with "INNAX Gebouw en Omgeving" and the installation contractors WM (The Hague) and W.K.Z. (Apeldoorn). The municipality of Haarlemmermeer contributed constructively regarding the redevelopment of NSI 's office and the deployment of renewable energy sources on location.
