NORMA Group supports inventors of solar-powered sterilization device

Maintal/Kassel, Germany, 17 March 2016 – NORMA Group, a global market leader in engineered joining technology, will be providing NORMAPLAST hose connectors and screw-in connectors for the prototype of a solar-powered sterilization device for use in developing countries.

The LifeShift Sterilizer, developed by the German RSO Shift GmbH , cleans, disinfects and sterilizes surgical instruments. A system for treating water that produces high-purity distilled water from contaminated river or tap water has been integrated. The device is solar-powered, allowing it to operate autonomously, and specifically designed for use in rural areas of developing countries that lack medical care.

“Because research and development are also key factors in our company’s success, we have not hesitated to support the inventors of this innovative project,” says Werner Deggim, CEO of NORMA Group. The LifeShift Sterilizer’s developers at RSO Shift GmbH have received a number of awards for their invention and were funded by an EXIST start-up stipend from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. “We use NORMAPLAST products for the connections in water treatment because they are easy to install and remain reliably sealed even under demanding conditions,” says Raphael Schönwitz, developer and co-founder of RSO Shift GmbH. “This is essential for the use of medical devices in developing countries where the transmission of infectious diseases by contamination is a major problem.”

NORMAPLAST hose connectors and plastic screw-in connectors connect the pipes that conduct fluids without any leakage. The joining elements are known for their high strength and damping capacity, as well as their light weight. Ribs on the mounts and connectors ensure that all lines and hoses remain securely fastened. NORMAPLAST products are used in the chemical industry, in water management and in the food and beverage industry, among other fields.
