NorCom pioneering mobile TV applications with NCPower
Global unveiling of NorCom’s new product at NAB, the largest fair for media
technology
Munich, April 13, 2007 – NorCom will be unveiling a global innovation, an
integrated solution for live transmission via mobile TV, for the first time
at the National Association of Broadcasters 2007 (NAB), the largest media
technology fair, in Las Vegas, United States. NorCom’s NCPower production
system permits the creation and management of multimedia content as well as
backchannel integration (e.g. for viewer voting).
In this way, NCPower acts as a hub linking mobile communications users and
TV broadcasters, offering companies and consumers an entirely new dimension
in television. With its potential for the future, this technology is
suitable for transmission to mobile devices via future DVB-H and DMB
infrastructures.
Live and on demand as downloads
On show at NAB on April 16 – 19, 2007, the solution integrates for the
first time all components from production to playout right through to live
reception on the mobile telephone including interaction components for
consumers.
All shows produced using NCPower such as news and magazine shows are
available for downloading or via live streaming. Needless to say, it is
also possible to transmit normal TV programs to mobile telephones. In
addition, further information such as the latest traffic news or a news
ticker can be produced using NCPower and implemented via the same channel
on an on-demand basis.
Interactivity
NCPower already offers scope for interactivity, e.g. in the form of viewer
voting. The results of the vote can be accessed at all times on a real-time
basis using the NCPower production system. Looking ahead over the next five
years, advertising - alongside interaction income and general access fees -
will be one of the three main drivers for Mobile TV.
'Naturally enough, mobile TV is of enormous interest to both consumers and
companies. In particular, it is on a growth trajectory around the world
thanks to its accessibility, meaning that considerable market potential is
waiting to be tapped,' says Viggo Nordbakk, founder and CEO of NorCom AG.
'The standard debate on whether to go for DVB-H of DMB is of no relevance
for us as the mobile devices entering the market in the future will support
both standards,' he continues.
