Philippine broadcaster deploys Net Insight's Nimbra technology for mission-critical news event
20 May, 2010
STOCKHOLM, Sweden – Net Insight, a leading developer of efficient and scalable transport solutions for media, IP and broadcast networks, today announced that one of the major broadcasters in the Philippines has selected Net Insight's Nimbra platform for their missioncritical news production. Initially the equipment will be used for the coverage of a live news event.
The customer operates a television network in the Philippines with main broadcast facilities and transmitters. For a major event, the broadcaster needed a carrier-class, high-capacity transport solution to carry live uncompressed HD and SD feeds as well as compressed ASI and Ethernet data to and from their news production centre.
Net Insight's Nimbra 680 multiservice switch was selected for this mission-critical event. Nimbra 680 combines high-availability characteristics, such as hardware redundancy of switch and control modules, with flexible auto-sensing video ports and highly efficient rack density, making it an ideal platform for this kind of demanding events. The solution integrates multiple HD-SDI, SD-SDI and ASI feeds together with Gigabit Ethernet in a single box over a single 10 Gbps link. The equipment will be re-deployed for other applications in the future.
The order was won in co-operation with Net Insight's partner Nera Telecommunications Ltd.
"We are pleased to have partnered with Net Insight in providing the high capacity transport solution to a major broadcaster in the Philippines." said Samuel Ang, President & CEO of Nera Telecommunications Ltd. "We are confident this partnership, through our combined experience and expertise, will offer competitive services for demanding media transport applications to the region."
"We are delighted that this Philippine broadcaster sees the benefit of Net Insight's Nimbra technology," said Fredrik Trägårdh, CEO of Net Insight. "I am convinced that the ongoing digitalization in the region will bring several other business opportunities and we look forward to continuing to explore these with our partner NeraTel."
