NCC to construct Royal College of Music for SEK 413 million

Akademiska Hus has commissioned NCC to construct the new Royal College of Music in Stockholm. The order, worth about SEK 413 million, will be implemented in partnership with Akademiska Hus and registered in the second quarter of 2013.

After 55 years in temporary premises, the Royal College of Music will now acquire a new residence. Integration between the city and a creative meeting place will provide the focus and the college will feature a distinctive glass entrance on Valhallavägen and flexible concert spaces for both large and more intimate concerts.

"Our aim is to create a modern college with high acoustic standards in the concert spaces, and practice rooms with a good work environment for teachers and students," says Matti Virkki, Business Manager, Building Department, NCC Construction, Stockholm/Mälardalen Region.

"The Stockholm region is developing and, together with the Royal College of Music and NCC, we look forward to commencing construction on this vital project for the university capital of Stockholm," says Sten Wetterblad, Regional Director, Akademiska Hus AB, Stockholm Region.

The contract will be carried out in close collaboration with Akademiska Hus. The working method is in line with NCC Partnering , a structured form of collaboration where the client, consultants and contractors work together to solve a construction assignment. The method is based on an open and trusting partnership, in which all parties share their professional knowledge throughout all stages of the project. The work is also planned digitally using virtual construction (VDC), which optimizes the construction period.

The project has commenced in terms of landscaping and relocating the existing building on the site, and is scheduled for completion by May 2016. The total assignment comprises a gross area of 21,900 square meters, of which about 20,900 square meters will be new construction and employ about 70 people in NCC.

The project will be registered in the NCC Construction Sweden business area.
