NCC to construct road and tunnels in Norway for SEK 455 million

NCC Construction Norway has been commissioned by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to construct a new section of the E18 Expressway in Østfold, southern Norway, for approximately SEK 455 million. The period of construction is estimated at two years and the order will be registered in the second quarter of 2012.

The Homstvedt–Melleby section is part of the "Østfold package," which includes the expansion of the E18 Expressway from Oslo to the Swedish border. The E18 Expressway in Østfold is one of the principal connections between Norway and Sweden and is included in what is designated the Nordic triangle, Stockholm-Copenhagen-Oslo.

The new E18 Expressway will be constructed through a forest and agricultural area between Homstvedt and Melleby in Østfold, which is on the border to northern Bohuslän in Sweden. In total, the section of highway will be 4.3 kilometers long, with alternating two, three and four lanes. The project also includes the construction of a 150-meter tunnel and four new bridges.

The new E18 will be constructed outside densely populated areas and the objective is to increase traffic safety.

Work will commence in summer 2012 and is scheduled for completion in summer 2014.
