Top 100: Nabaltec AG once again among the Top 100 small and mid-sized companies

Schwandorf, 1 July 2011 . Nabaltec AG was once again recognized in 2011 as one of the Top 100 most innovative small and mid-sized German companies, the fifth time it has received this distinction. This was revealed by a study conducted by Vienna University of Economics and Business as part of the 'Top 100' competition, which compares companies from all over the country in a wide variety of sectors.

As part of the competition, the innovativeness of 272 small and mid-sized German companies in all was studied over a period of several months and the top 100, including Nabaltec AG, received the coveted seal of approval from mentor Lothar Späth at the big award ceremony on 30 June, which was held at the Hohe Düne resort in Rostock-Warnemünde.

Gerhard Witzany, member of the Nabaltec AG Management Board, said as follows: 'We are very proud to be receiving this award once again this year. Innovation is a very important issue for our company. Every day, our 376 employees work to implement new ideas and meet individual customer specifications. This award demonstrates that it pays to constantly try new things and take on new challenges, even if it sometimes appears impossible at first.'

The Nabaltec AG Management Board uses a knowledge database to obtain an overview of the latest innovative projects and meets regularly with developers every three to six months. At these meetings, all proposals are once again subjected to discussion and possibly developed further. 'In this way, we can ensure that all product development ideas are really considered, even if they might appear somewhat absurd at first glance', said Gerhard Witzany. This innovative management technique earned the highest possible grade from the Top 100 jury.

All participating companies were graded in four categories: promotion of innovation by top management, innovative climate, innovative processes and organization and innovative marketing. The largest sector represented by the Top 100 companies is mechanical engineering (21%), followed by the automotive industry (9%) and IT (8%). All together, the 100 companies who earn the 2011 seal of approval combined for EUR 11.2 billion in revenues. 48 of the 100 companies are the German market leader in their sector and 19 are global market leaders, including Nabaltec.

About Nabaltec AG:

Nabaltec AG, with registered office in Schwandorf, a chemicals business which has received multiple awards for innovativeness, manufactures, develops and distributes highly specialized products based on aluminum hydroxide ('ATH') and aluminum oxide, as well as other raw materials, on an industrial scale through its 'Functional Fillers' and 'Technical Ceramics' divisions. The company's product range includes halogen-free flame retardant fillers and eco-friendly additives for the plastics industry. Flame retardant fillers are used e.g. in cables in tunnels, airports, high-rise buildings and electronic devices, while additives replace stabilizers containing heavy metals in PVC processing. Nabaltec also produces base materials for use in technical ceramics, the refractory industry and catalysis. Unlike halogenated flame retardant fillers, the products manufactured by the company's 'Functional Fillers' division contain no hazardous substances and do not require separate disposal. Rather, the company's flame retardant fillers actually decrease the development of fumes hazardous to human health and the environment in the event of fire. Nabaltec maintains production sites in Germany and the US and plans to continue to consolidate its market position by expanding capacity, further optimizing processes and quality and making strategic extensions to its product range. On the strength of its specialty products, the company strives to attain the market leadership in each segment.
