Muehlbauer’s fiscal year 2001: Smart ID segment on previous year’s level Ad-hoc-announcement transmitted by DGAP. The issuer is solely responsible for the content of this announcement. ——————————————————————————– Roding, February 27, 2002 – According to preliminary results Muehlbauer Holding AG & Co. KGaA has completed fiscal year 2001 with sales of EUR 89.4 million (previous year: EUR 110.3 million) and a EBIT of EUR 8.5 million (previous year: EUR 24.0 million). This corresponds to a EBIT margin of 9.5 %. As a result Muehlbauer group did not achieve its target in 2001. This is justified particularly with the development relating to the worsened economic situation in the course of 2001 and the thereby following shift of customers’ orders. The smart ID segment as a notified growth market generated sales of EUR 47.8 million alike year 2000 sales (EUR 48.6 million). Concerning Muehlbauer’s operating activities a positive operating cash flow of EUR +15.2 million could be drawn, also equal to previous year’s value (EUR +15.3 million), while the free cash flow results at EUR -2.2 million (previous year: EUR +0.1 million) due to extensive capital expenditures. In a difficult environment not just the economic situation had negative impact on Muehlbauer’s business activity. “Beside the weakness of the semiconductor sector particularly noticed from the third quarter on, the occurrences in the United States of America from September 2001 forced the situation considerably”, said founder and CEO Josef Muehlbauer, “all this led to extensive postponements of orders among the customers. Thus the fourth quarter’s sales in the segment Semiconductor Related Products decreased by more than 80% compared with the previous year’s value. Additionally capital expenditures amounting to EUR 13.1 million and associated depreciation, planned on a long-term basis, affected the result of the Muehlbauer group. Order income achieved EUR 93.6 million in 2001 (2000: 136.3 million), whereby first positive signals were noticed again in the fourth quarter. Encouraging trends could also be seen in the order backlog amounting to EUR of 48.1 million at the year end 2001(previous year: EUR 56.4 million). Detailed results of the fiscal year 2001 will be presented at the press conference on March 26, 2002 in Frankfurt/Main. At the same time the annual report 2001 will be published.
