Wie am 8. Februar 2001 veroeffentlicht, implementierte das Unternehmen die Bilanzierungsregel Staff Accounting Bulletin 101 (SAB 101) der U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission im 4. Quartal 2000. Zur Gewaehrleistung der Vergleichbarkeit mit den Ergebnissen der vergangenen Jahre, hat das Unternehmen den Finanzabschluss sowohl mit, als auch ohne Beruecksichtigung der Auswirkungen von SAB 101 vorgelegt. Ohne Beruecksichtigung der Implementierung von SAB 101 stieg der Umsatz um 139 Prozent von 5,5 Millionen Euro in 1999 auf 13,1 Millionen Euro in 2000 (von 10,7 Millionen DM auf 25,6 DM Millionen). Das schnelle Wachstum ist auf insgesamt acht neue Kooperationen – hauptsaechlich im Bereich therapeutische Antikoerper – zurueckzufuehren, die das Unternehmen im Berichtsjahr abgeschlossen hat. Der Jahresfehlbetrag verringerte sich um 40 Prozent von -3,8 Millionen Euro auf -2,3 Millionen Euro (von -7,5 Millionen DM auf -4,5 Millionen DM) im Vergleich zum Vorjahr. Der Verlust pro Aktie fiel um 42 Prozent auf -0,66 Euro (-1,28 DM) im Vergleich zu -1,13 Euro (-2,22 DM) in 1999. Unter Beruecksichtigung des Einflusses von SAB 101 stieg der Umsatz um 54 Prozent von 5,5 Millionen Euro auf 8,4 Millionen Euro (von 10,7 Millionen DM auf 16,6 Millionen DM). Durch die Aenderung zu SAB 101 berichtet das Unternehmen ausserdem eine einmalige, nicht-zahlungswirksame Belastung in Hoehe von 3,2 Millionen Euro (6,3 Millionen DM), und weist dadurch einen kumulativen Effekt bezueglich der Umsaetze aus, die in frueheren Perioden gebucht wurden. Die Aufwendungen fuer die gewoehnliche Geschaeftstaetigkeit stiegen planmaessig von 9,0 Millionen Euro auf 15,3 Millionen Euro (von 17,7 Millionen DM auf 29,9 Millionen DM). Dieser Anstieg ist insbesondere auf die fortgesetzten Investitionen in Forschung und Entwicklung sowie die Gruendung einer Vertriebsniederlassung in den USA zurueckzufuehren. Entsprechend stieg der Jahresfehlbetrag von -3,8 Millionen Euro auf -9,2 Millionen Euro (von -7,5 Millionen DM auf -17,9 Millionen DM) gegenueber 1999. Der Verlust pro Aktie stieg von -1,13 Euro (-2,22 DM) in 1999 auf -2,62 Euro (-5,13 DM). MorphoSys Reports Year End 2000 Financial Results Results Driven By Eight New Collaborations Martinsried/Munich, Germany, –March 19, 2001 — MorphoSys today announced its financial results for the full year 2000. As published on February 8, 2001, the Company adopted U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Staff Accounting Bulletin 101 (SAB 101) in the 4th quarter 2000, and for comparability with previous years, has provided financial results including and excluding the impact of SAB101. Excluding the impact of the Company’s adoption of SAB101, revenues for the year 2000 increased by 139 percent from Euro 5.5 mil. to Euro 13.1 mil. (from DM 10.7 mil. to DM 25.6 mil.) compared to 1999. The rapid pace of growth was due to the conclusion of eight new collaborations in the full year and was mainly driven by increased therapeutic antibody revenues. Net loss decreased by 40 % from Euro -3.8 mil. to Euro -2.3 mil. (from DM -7.5 mil. to DM -4.5 mil.) compared to the previous year. The loss per share decreased by 42% to Euro -0.66 (DM -1.28) compared to Euro -1.13 (DM -2.22) in 1999. Including the impact of SAB101, revenues increased by 54 percent from Euro 5.5 mil. to Euro 8.4 mil.(DM 10.7 mil. to DM 16.6 mil.). The Company will record a one-time, non-cash charge of Euro 3.2 mil.(DM 6.3 mil.), associated with the cumulative effect of change in accounting principle related to revenue recognized in prior periods. The continued investment in Research & Development as well as the establishment of a marketing subsidiary in the U.S.A. were the main driving factors for higher operating expenses, which increased according to plan from Euro 9.0 mil. to Euro 15.3 mil. (DM 17.7 mil. to DM 29.9 mil.). Accordingly, the net loss for the year 2000 increased from Euro -3.8 mil. to Euro -9.2 mil. (from DM -7.5 mil. to DM -17.9 mil.).
