JIM M[C] DOWELL RE-JOINS MX1 BOARD

Adelaide, Australia, 15[th] December 2020: Australian hi-tech company Micro-X Ltd (ASX:MX1) ( Micro-X or the Company ), a leader in cold cathode x-ray technology for the health and security markets globally, is pleased to advise that Mr Jim McDowell will again join the Micro-X Board as a Non-Executive Director from 1[st] January 2021. Mr McDowell served on the Company’s Board from September 2017 before relinquishing all directorships in August 2018 when he was appointed Chief Executive of the Department of Premier and Cabinet working for South Australian Premier, the Hon Steven Marshall MP until December 2020.

Mr McDowell has recently been appointed Group CEO of Nova Group, an Adelaide based global provider of technology services and solutions for defence, aerospace and critical infrastructure industries.

Mr McDowell’s early career was in international sales and marketing for defence and aerospace companies. As Commercial Manager for Shorts/Bombardier based out of Belfast, Northern Ireland he was successful in getting many aerospace products adopted by the US Army and US Air Force and became familiar with navigating the processes of congressional approvals for procurement projects in Washington DC. Mr McDowell then spent many years in BAE Systems’ International Sales & Marketing Organisation as Managing Director Asia. Based in Hong Kong, Mr McDowell’s team achieved significant export sales for the UK-based company during his tenure, including many multi-billion dollar defence projects for Asian governments.

In 2001, Mr McDowell moved into an operational role as CEO of BAE Systems Australia, growing the company over ten years to become Australia’s largest Defence and Aerospace contractor with revenues close to $2 billion. He then relocated to Saudi Arabia, where he became CEO of BAE Systems’ $6 billion business operations there for three years before returning to Adelaide to become Chancellor of the University of South Australia and to take up a number of board appointments.

In 2014 Mr McDowell was invited by the Defence Minister to join the team undertaking the First Principles Review of the Australian Department of Defence. This major review of the structure and operations of Defence initiated many farreaching changes in the organisation which has helped shaped the agency to its current form.

Mr McDowell brings significant board experience having previously chaired Australia’s Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation and been a director of Codan Limited (ASX:CDA), Austal Ltd and the Adelaide Football Club. Mr McDowell holds a Bachelor of Law (University of Warwick) and an honorary Doctorate (University of South Australia).

Micro-X’s Chairman, Patrick O’Brien commented:

“I’m thrilled that Jim has chosen to re-join the Micro-X Board after his time leading the South Australian Premier and Cabinet Department. His experience in operational management is extensive and his background in international sales to defence organisations, particularly in the US, will be extraordinarily useful as we accelerate commercialisation of our defence and security products. I am confident that Jim’s appointment to our Board will make a big contribution in these markets and guide the rapid growth we plan for our Company. ”

This announcement is approved by the Board of Micro-X.
