METabolic EXplorer: turnover for the first half of 2009
Clermont-Ferrand, July 17th, 2009 – METabolic EXplorer, the green chemistry company specializing in the development of bioprocesses for the production of chemical compounds used in a wide range of everyday products (paints, solvents, animal feed supplements, adhesives, textile fibres, resorbable surgical thread, etc.), today announced its turnover for the first half of 2009.

For the first half of 2009, METabolic EXplorer registered a turnover of €900,000; this sum was almost fully constituted by licensing revenues from the company's two co-developed processes for the production of glycolic acid and L-methionine. These contractually defined revenues are notably paid on the achievement of project development milestones and thus vary strongly from one quarter to another.
During the first six months of the year, METabolic EXplorer continued to deploy its industrial and business development activities on schedule and within the scope of a strict financial management policy.
The construction of a purification unit (announced on March 10th) is also moving ahead on schedule and in line with the allocated budget (€10 million). When combined with the fermentation unit launched in late 2007, the purification unit will form the company's industrial pilot (due to be commissioned by the end of this year). METabolic EXplorer will then be able to implement the continuous production of its target compounds from renewable raw materials, validate the cost prix for each of its five development processes and thus finalize the corresponding process books.
As of late June 2009, METabolic Explorer's intellectual property portfolio consisted of 38 patent families (including 3 initiated during the first half of the year and covering glycolic acid, butanol and 1,3-propanediol, respectively). Over the same period, 41 additional applications were filed - bringing the total number of granted or pending patents to 222 (i.e. a 23% increase).
Halfway through the 2009 financial year, METabolic EXplorer remains confident in its ability to achieve its stated objectives.
