In late December 2009, Carbone Lorraine acquired all shares it did not previously own in Calcarb, in which it had held a 60% stake since December 2008.

Calcarb is based in Scotland and ranks second in the world in its area of expertise. It makes rigid graphite felt that provides sophisticated insulation in very high-temperature furnaces. The use of these insulators in the electronics and solar power industries has been growing very rapidly for several years.

The purchase of the initial stake in 2008 was debt-financed, while the purchase of the remaining shares was partly financed through the September 2009 capital increase.

Owning 100% of Calcarb will enable Carbone Lorraine to take full advantage of the strong commercial and technological synergies between the two companies, and to continue strengthening its positions in solar power.
