SIGNED COMMERCIAL AGREEMENT WITH UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE AND CONSULTANCY AGREEMENT WITH PROFESSOR JOHN AITKEN

NuSep (ASX: NSP) is pleased to advise that a Commercial Agreement with the University of Newcastle (UON) has been executed with the Faculty of Health and Medicine in the field of human and animal assisted reproduction. A separate Consultancy Agreement has also been executed with Professor John Aitken to provide services to the Company. Laureate Professor Aitken will also continue to chair NuSep’s Scientific Advisory team. This agreement follows the Heads of Agreement with Newcastle Innovation (the technology transfer arm of the UON) which was announced in March 2015.

Professor Aitken is Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Medicine at the University of Newcastle and is an international authority on assisted reproductive technology.

The parties have developed a process and associated laboratory instruments for separating the most viable sperm from a sperm sample. NuSep holds patents and has developed proprietary membrane technology for separating components of biological fluids. It also has the laboratory instruments and industrial processes for using this proprietary technology which it is developing in its SpermSep division. The UON has extensive know-how and expertise in human and animal fertility and has patented this specific application, which NuSep has licensed.

NuSep Chairman Alison Coutts commented, “NuSep is pleased to have executed the full agreements with the University of Newcastle and Professor John Aitken which will enable us to accelerate the development of the SpermSep program. We already had established an extremely beneficial working relationship with Professor Aitken and his research team and now, with the full agreements executed, we are in the position to finally develop the SpermSep technology to its full potential. In time our aim is for it to become the “gold standard” in sperm selection, used by the leading global IVF clinics throughout the world.”

Laureate Professor John Aitken commented, “We have a strong relationship with NuSep and look forward to developing the SpermSep technology further. We know it selects the most viable sperm and that it has vast potential to be applied in global markets, not just for human IVF but also in animals. We look forward to the future collaboration with NuSep.”

The specific terms of the agreement are confidential but strike a balance between the long-term sustainable development of the commercial application of the SpermSep technology while also rewarding the UON for its contribution to the technology and its commercialisation.

The UON and NuSep have already engaged in in-vitro human IVF clinical trials, which will be continued and extended with the next generation separation device that NuSep is currently developing. The parties will also continue to undertake research in the area of equine reproduction.
