MedLife has inaugurated the first fully automated laboratory in Brasov – a new standard of excellence in laboratory medicine in the region

  • MedLife has inaugurated the first fully automated laboratory in Brasov, following an investment of over 2 million euros.
  • The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, such as the Abbott-GLP automated line, the Sysmex automated hematology line, Alinity analyzers, and also integrates Artificial Intelligence modules.
  • It is the second-largest laboratory in the MedLife Group and operates as a regional hub (BV, CV, MS), as well as a national center for highly specialized tests.
  • Currently, MedLife operates a network of 43 laboratories and over 250 collection points nationwide, being the market leader in this segment as well.

Brasov, June 17 th , 2025: MedLife, the largest private healthcare network in Romania, announces the inauguration of the first fully automated laboratory in Brasov. This represents a strategic investment in state-of-the-art technology and medical innovation, with a total value of over 2 million euros, marking an important step toward the automation of laboratory processes.

Cutting-edge technology for accurate and fast results

The MedLife PDR Laboratory in Brasov has been equipped with a fully automated Abbott-GLP line, integrating the most advanced robotic modules for sorting, loading-unloading, centrifuging, sampling, and storing samples, as well as high-capacity biochemistry and immunology analyzers – Alinity. Additionally, the laboratory has been outfitted with a Sysmex automated hematology line, complemented by a system for preparing and staining blood smears. The entire robotic system is supported by Artificial Intelligence and middleware software, which manages the workflow, controls the modules, and validates the results. This advanced technological infrastructure enables rigorous process standardization and helps eliminate human errors in the interpretation of laboratory data.

"Laboratory automation is one of the strategic directions through which MedLife aims to address the challenges of modern medicine: the need for speed, precision, and operational efficiency. In recent years, we have accelerated investments in advanced technologies for our diagnostic network, and the fully automated laboratory in Brasov perfectly reflects this vision. It is an essential step to increase processing capacity at the regional level, as well as to bring innovation closer to patients. Brasov thus becomes a key pillar in our laboratory network, a regional hub serving not only the county but also surrounding areas, offering fast, reliable, and standardized diagnostic services. We believe in predictable laboratory medicine, supported by technology,"said Dorin Preda, Deputy CEO MedLife Group.

The benefits of automation contribute to increased operational efficiency, expanded total sample processing capacity, reduced processing time, and rapid results, along with improved accuracy. Additionally, IT standardization and workflow monitoring significantly help reduce the risk of errors. It is important to mention that despite the advanced level of automation, the team of #GoodDoctors remains actively involved in the final validation of results, ensuring medical rigor and trust for every patient.

"The inauguration of the first fully automated laboratory in Brasov represents an important step in our strategy to develop a network of modern laboratories focused on efficiency, accuracy, and patient safety. This is a project in which we have invested not only cuttingedge technology but also vision — that of transforming laboratory medicine into a predictable, standardized process supported by innovation. We want the Brasov laboratory to become a regional and national benchmark for highly specialized analyses and the integration of new technologies, as well as to contribute concretely to improving the diagnostic pathway for patients in Romania," – said Dr. Robert Beke, Director of the Laboratory Division of the MedLife Group.

Regional processing hub and national center for highly specialized tests

MedLife PDR Brasov Laboratory is the second largest in the Group, after the central laboratory in Bucharest, and the second to integrate an automated laboratory line. Covering an area of approximately 700 square meters, it serves 25 collection points in the counties of Brasov, Covasna, and Mures, functioning as a regional processing hub for samples and a national center for highly specialized tests, such as myelograms.

Aligned with MedLife's strategy to support precision medicine, one of the laboratory's major objectives is the development of a highly specialized testing center in oncohematology, which will offer oncology patients access to a complete care pathway – from diagnosis to treatment and monitoring.

MedLife PDR Brasov, founded in 1994, has processed approximately 15 million tests over time through its own laboratory, becoming a benchmark in medical analysis in the region. With this new investment in automation and cutting-edge technology, the laboratory strengthens its position as a regional leader in diagnostic services, contributing to improving the quality of medical care for hundreds of thousands of patients.

The Rapid Diagnostic Polyclinic (PDR) was the first company acquired by the MedLife Group over a decade ago. From starting with only two units and a turnover of approximately 3 million euros, MedLife Brasov has evolved into a true regional medical hub, with 16 units, over 100 consultation offices, two large hospitals (with over 200 beds for day and continuous hospitalization), and the first hospital in the area performing ophthalmological interventions under the National Health Insurance House (CAS) for day hospitalization. By the end of 2024, the turnover of the MedLife PDR Brasov division reached approximately 52 million euros, consolidating its position as the market leader in private medical services in Brasov.

"The development of the fully automated laboratory in Brasov is a strategic investment that supports our mission to provide patients in the region with fast access to accurate tests within a fully integrated system. This expansion of processing capacity allows us not only to promptly meet the needs of Brasov, Covasna, and Mureș but also to strengthen the city's position as a regional hub within the MedLife network. In a competitive local context, we aim to remain leaders through innovation, technology, and the expansion of services, both through organic growth and by integrating centers of excellence such as OncoCard and Opticristal, which bring real added value to patients and the community," – said George Muscoiu, Regional Manager, MedLife Group.
