Compared to the first three months of the previous year sales went up by more than 40 % from Euro 340.8 M to Euro 478.5 M. Supported by a lower tax ratio due to the German tax reform, quarterly earnings improved more- proportionally by 71 % from Euro 9.4 M to Euro 16.1 M. Earnings per share rose from Euro 0.39 to Euro 0.67. Internationalization MEDION was able to develop further business potential by additional expansion in countries such as Italy and Switzerland. Having close partnerships with large, international retail groups has proved to be the appropriate strategy. Compared to the corresponding quarter in the previous year foreign sales were significantly lifted by 145% from Euro 33.0 M to Euro 80.7 M. Thus, the proportion of non-domestic sales rose from 9.7% to 16.9%. Continuous expansion of the product range Numerous innovative, future oriented products with attractive technologies in the field of mobile computing, flat screen technology and digital photography have been launched and significantly contributed to MEDION’s growth. Optimism for the future The high and further increasing acceptance of our comprehensive marketing- service concept has created an excellent platform. The start of the second quarter was marked by a number of encouraging factors which all raise our confidence and optimism for the future: a very favourable development of our European business, particularly in England, Switzerland and in Southern Europe, the further expansion of our worldwide partnerships and the foundation of our U.S.-subsidiary. end of ad hoc announcement (c) DGAP 22.05.2001 ——————————————————————————– WKN: 660 500; Index: NEMAX- 50 Listed: Neuer Markt in Frankfurt; Freiverkehr in Berlin, Bremen, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Hannover, München und Stuttgart 220731 Mai 01
