Offenburg, July 31. 2015 – In the first half-year of 2015 MEDICLIN Aktiengesellschaft (MediClin) achieved Group sales of EUR 274.2 mill. (H1 2014: EUR 266.7 mill.) thus being EUR 7.5 mill. or 2.8 % above the value of the first half-year of 2014. Group occupancy rate amounted to 87.2 % (H1 2014: 87.2 %).

Raw materials and consumables used declined by EUR 3.1 mill. against previous year’s value, staff costs increased by EUR 6.9 mill. primarily due to the higher headcount. Depreciation and amortisation and other operating expenses rose only moderately on the previous year’s six-month level.

Consequently Group EBIT improved compared to the first half-year of 2014 by EUR 3.5 mill. from EUR 3.1 mill. to EUR 6.6 mill. and the result attributable to MediClin AG shareholders by EUR 3.3 mill. from EUR 1.0 mill. to EUR 4.3 mill.

Positive earnings development in both segments post-acute and acute

Since the positive sales development of the post-acute segment continued in the second quarter of 2015, sales of the first half-year of 2015 were EUR 9.0 mill. (+5.9 %) above previous year’s value. Sales of the acute segment were EUR 2.1 mill. (-2.0 %) below previous year’s value due to a lower number of cases and case mix points. The nursing care business area showed a sales increase of EUR 0.3 mill. (+5.5%) thanks to a better occupancy rate. Higher sales and significantly lower energy costs in the second quarter against the first quarter as in the previous year led to an increase of the segment result. The sales decline in the acute segment was offset by lower expenses, meaning the segment result is slightly above the previous year’s figure. EUR 12.6 mill. were invested in fixed assets (brutto), containing subsidies of EUR 1.1 mill. in the first half-year of 2015 (H1 2014: EUR 9.4 mill., containing subsidies of EUR 1.2 mill.). As of June 30, 2015 cash and cash equivalents amounted to EUR 18.0 mill. (30.06.2014: EUR 11.5 mill.) and the equity ratio 48.1 % (30.06.2014: 47.3 %).

MediClin employed on average 6,492 employees (H1 2014: 6,386 employees), calculated on the basis of full-time staff, in the first half-year of 2015.

Outlook

The business development of the first half-year of 2015 indicates that the sales and earnings targets of the Group can be reached. This also applies for the sales and earnings targets in the post-acute segment. In the acute segment, the Management Board assumes that, thanks to process and cost optimisation, the earnings target for the segment will be achieved despite the sales decline.
