MediClin: Sales increased by 1.3 % – Result below previous year's level
Offenburg, 2. März 2012 – In the financial year 2011 MEDICLIN Aktiengesellschaft (MediClin) has achieved Group sales of EUR 493.6 million (2010: EUR 487,2 million). The preliminary Group-EBIT amounted to EUR 10.9 million thus EUR 6.0 million below the previous year's value. The preliminary comprehensive income attributable to shareholders of MediClin AG was EUR 3.0 million (2010: EUR 10.0 million).
In 2011 a total number of 2.5 million nursing days were provided and more than 119 thousand cases were treated. With 84.8 % the occupancy rate of the Group was on a high level, nevertheless did not accomplish the previous year's value (2010: 86.6%).
Sales increase in the segments and in the business area nursing care
EUR 6.4 million was the increase in sales and EUR 4.1 million are attributable to the post-acute segment, EUR 0,6 million to the acute segment and EUR 0.8 million to the business area nursing care. The result of the post-acute segment decreased from EUR 6.2 million to EUR 2.8 million due to lower occupancy rates compared to last year and at the same time higher costs. The result of the acute segment decreased by EUR 2.6 million to EUR 15.5 million particularly due to higher costs in the reporting year.
Material costs rose slightly by EUR 0.1 million or 0.1% – the material cost quota declined to 22.4% (2010: 22.6%) as a result of increased sales. Personnel costs increased by EUR 11.6 million or 4.3% – the personnel cost quota was 56.5% (2010: 54.8%). The number of staff accounted in full time employees increased on average by 115 employees and amounted to 6,099 full-time employees on average in 2011 (2010: 5,984 full-time employees). Other operational expenses stayed the same (2011: EUR 89.3 million; 2010: EUR 89.3 million). Investments (gross additions to property, plant and equipment) amounted to EUR 29.9 million EUR (2010: EUR 23.3 million). The cash flow from operating activities was EUR 15.6 million (2010: EUR 13.4 million).
Change in the Supervisory Board
Dr. Hans Rossels, Managing Director of Kreiskrankenhaus Mechernich, and President of Krankenhausgesellschaft Nordrhein-Westfalen, resigned on his own request from the Supervisory Board as of December 31, 2011. Dipl.-Kfm. Stephan Leonhard, executive director of Asklepios Kliniken GmbH and vice chairman of corporate management of the Asklepios Group is member of the Supervisory Board of MediClin AG appointed by the court as from January 1, 2012.
Credit to the financial result in 2012
Mid of February 2012 loans in the amount of in total EUR 61.4 million from insurance companies of which two are shareholders of MediClin AG were paid back. As follow-up financing a syndicated loan in the amount of EUR 50.0 million was taken out. The loan includes a redeemable loan of EUR 45.0 million and a credit line of further EUR 5.0 million in form of a revolving credit which can be used if required. The package loan contains an option to increase the redeemable loan and the credit line in each case by further EUR 5.0 million.
The balance press conference and the analyst conference will take place on March 22, 2011 in Frankfurt. As from that date the Annual Report 2011 will be available at www.mediclin.de.
