Manz AG: Successful start to 2014 with around EUR 50 mn of new orders

Positive corporate trend continues in 2014 with around EUR 50 million of new orders in Display division

First order for vacuum coating systems for the display industry offers additional revenue potential from follow-up orders

Successful technology transfer from Solar division highlights innovative strength and outstanding market position

Reutlingen, January 15, 2014 – Manz AG, one of the world’s leading high-tech engineering companies with its extensive technology portfolio for the three strategic business areas ‘Display’, ‘Solar’ and ‘Battery’, has started the new year on a successful footing with new orders worth a total of around EUR 50 million in its Display division. These orders will already become effective in terms of both revenue and earnings in the first half of the year. Along with systems and plants in the automation, laser process technology and measuring technology areas to manufacture smart phones and tablet computers, these orders for the first time also comprise innovative vacuum coating systems to enhance touch panel displays’ scratch-resistance. Engineers at the German company site in Karlstein, where the development centre for vacuum coating technology is based, have thereby managed to successfully transfer to its Display division technology that was originally developed to produce solar cells. The innovative coating technology, which was developed in close cooperation with a leading smart phones manufacturer, offers excellent prospects for follow-up orders and corresponding high future revenue potential.

Dieter Manz, CEO and founder of Manz AG, regards this as confirmation of the company’s strategy: ‘These orders worth around EUR 50 million that we have received highlight our outstanding expertise as a high-tech engineering company within the still-booming display industry, and represent a very good start to our current 2014 financial year.’ From its established sites in China and Taiwan, Manz AG supplies the leading Asian suppliers to the electronics industry as well as renowned and globally-leading smart phone and tablet manufacturers with equipment to produce touch panel displays and other components for mobile devices. Dieter Manz is accordingly optimistic for the future: ‘The transfer of our innovative coating technology from our Solar division formed an important target of our strategic orientation. We have thereby tapped a lot of new applications, and again significantly extended our position as an equipment supplier to the electronics industry. From our Asian locations we can also supply German technology at locally competitive prices – something our industrial partners value. We also aim during the current 2014 financial year to consistently exploit the opportunities offered by new product developments and future technologies such as OLED.’
