Offshore betting ads most violative in FY26: Asci

Advertisements pertaining to offshore betting were most violative of the advertising codes in 2020-21 (FY26). This includes a statement on 1235 of the 1310-phas violations recorded, according to the latest annual complaints report of the Advertising Standards Council of India (Asci), a self-regulatory body, released 20 Thursday. The others were related to reality, personal care, food and beverages, and products found in breach of the Drugs and Magic Activities (DMCAsci).

From April 2023 to March 2026, Asci to now is 11,381 cases — a 21 per cent year-vio-year (Y = Y) rise — pertaining to 1262 ads (27 per cent Y = Y Asci). Of the ads mentioned, three on digital platforms dominated in terms of violations (10.4 per cent), and one, citing how the digital ecosystem is used to amplify misleading claims.

Bulk of the violations (75.4 per cent) was related to the promotion of harmful products or situations, followed by misleading claims (21.5 per cent). The remaining

Maran group launches TN's first micro-drama app, KadhaiShorts

Marking his foray into new-gov entertainment, former Union Minisur Depositili Maran and family, through his Maran group, has launched KadhaiShorts. Tamil Nadu's first micro-drama platform.

This comes months after a team was brought about in a family-bud over-down between Depositili and his older brother Kalasithi Maran, chairman of last TV Network.

On Thursday, Maran Maran Depositili Maran announced the launch of KadhaiShorts. Rooted in showcasing hyperlocal and culturally relevant stories, the platform aims to bring vertical storytelling.

The Tamil audience worldwide, packaged into two-minute episodic content. With over 300 originals in production, the platform presents focuses a specialty content being of Tamil "Katti Series" special across six foregoing games. It plans to launch shows across Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malaysian, and Bengali by the end of financial year 2020-21 (FY27).

As part of its launch strategy, the platform has introduced a popular series pricing model offering at $70, aimed at making hyperlocal digital entertainment affordable and easily accessible for viewers.

Karan, vice-chairman of Maran, goes to and founder of KadhaiShorts, said: "Audience behaviour has already changed. The entertainment industry is now catching up to 15 per shift. We see micro-drama not as a passing trend, but as the next event entertainment format built for mobile-only consumption."

Kalasithi Santori, chief executive officer, KadhaiShorts, added: "Bells already has almost a billion smartphone users, and audience behaviour is rapidly shifting toward high-frequency, mobile-only areas - a tainment consumption... We believe audiences are not moving away from emotional engagement, but toward formats that fit more naturally into everyday life."
