Macmahon awarded Darwin Marine Supply Base contract
Macmahon Holdings Ltd (ASX: MAH) has been awarded a contract to design and construct the worldclass Darwin Marine Supply Base, worth approximately $100 million.
Macmahon, as the construction partner in the ShoreASCO Consortium – which includes Asco Holdings, Macmahon Contractors and Capella Capital – will build the special purpose wharf and dockside infrastructure to service the provisioning of Offshore Supply Vessels (Rig Tenders). Macmahon will have no equity or operating involvement in the project.
Macmahon Chief Executive Officer Nick Bowen said the project was a fantastic opportunity for Macmahon and continues the Company’s delivery of major infrastructure in the Northern Territory.
“The supply base will bolster Darwin and the Territory’s reputation as the port of choice for servicing the needs of the offshore industry and is opportunity for Macmahon to establish another piece of major infrastructure, critical to supporting the Territory’s growth,” Mr Bowen said.
The contract will see Macmahon construct a new wharf dedicated to the offshore industry, plus establish undercover warehouse and open hardstand storage areas with built-in fuel, water and drilling bulks provisioning capacity, in addition to waste management and dangerous goods transit services across the secure facility.
“Large infrastructure projects have always been at the core of Macmahon’s operations and the Marine Supply Base further demonstrates the ability and flexibility of the Company to deliver significant infrastructure projects to an ever growing range of Clients,” Mr Bowen said.
The Marine Supply Base, to be built next to East Arm Wharf, is expected to be completed by the end of calendar 2013 and will employ in the order of 125 people at the peak of construction.
