Lithium Australia’s continuous mini-plant test in Perth generates high-purity, 99.57% lithium carbonate

HIGHLIGHT

7.7 kg lithium carbonate produced, 94% recovery

More than seven kilograms of high purity lithium carbonate has been produced by lithium developer, Lithium Australia NL (ASX: “LIT”) from the Company’s 10 day continuous mini-plant processing trial recently completed at a Perth laboratory. The trial was conducted using processing technology licensed to LIT. The test resulted in the production of a total of 7.7kg of high-purity lithium carbonate derived from lepidolite (lithium mica) sourced from the Coolgardie Rare Metals Venture (Lithium Australia [ASX:LIT] 80%, and Focus Minerals [ASX:FML]) in WA’s Eastern Goldfields. LIT’s first two mini-plant tests (Refer ASX announcement 9 July 2015 and 20 May 2015) are the world’s first successful, continuous lithium extraction tests using hydrometallurgy on hard rock. This novel process was developed by Strategic Metallurgy Pty Ltd with which LIT has a strategic alliance. Lithium carbonate produced from the continuous mini-plant test achieved a high-purity of 99.57% with 94% recovery from leach liquor. Further mini-plant runs are anticipated in the near future and will include material sourced from LIT’s other projects.

Further detailed analysis of the recently completed mini-plant test run will be released when all results have been collated and reconciled.

Lithium Australia (LIT) has a technical alliance with Strategic Metallurgy Pty Ltd to commercialise disruptive lithium extraction technology based on the recovery of lithium from micas; minerals not generally used as a source of lithium chemicals. LIT has a nonbinding Heads of Agreement with European Metals Holdings Limited to process lithium mineralisation at Cinovec in the Czech Republic on a 50/50 JV basis. Cinovec contains abundant lithium micas and is one of the world’s largest hard-rock lithium occurrences. In addition, LIT has strategic alliances with Pilbara Minerals Limited, Focus Minerals Limited and Tungsten Mining NL, to investigate lithium and rare metals in prospective locations of Western Australia close to well-developed infrastructure. LIT also has lithium exploration assets near Greenbushes and Ravensthorpe in Western Australia. LIT is also evaluating other European opportunities.
