Klaipėda Transformer Substation Reconstruction Contract Signed
Klaipėda Transformer Substation Reconstruction Contract Signed
Vilnius, Lithuania, 2012-02-01 15:58 CET (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On 31 January
2012, Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator Litgrid signed the
contract for the reconstruction of Klaipėda transformer substation. The public
procurement tender was won by the consortium formed by Tetas UAB and Empower
AB. The value of the contract stands at nearly LTL 55 million, with 30 per cent
of the funds to be allocated from the European Regional Development Fund. The
reconstruction of the Klaipėda substation is planned to be completed by the end
of 2014.
The Klaipėda substation reconstruction project includes the integration of an
electric current converter necessary for the international power link NordBalt.
A similar converter will be installed at the Nybro substation in Sweden. Upon
the engagement of the Klaipėda-Telšiai electricity transmission line, the
Klaipėda transformer substation will become one of the most important
facilities of the electricity transmission network, by which electricity will
be transmitted between the Lithuanian and Swedish power systems.
The works on the international link NordBalt are being carried out in line with
the schedule: the contracts with subcontractors have been signed and the
production of the entire amount of cables necessary for the link was launched
last year. NordBalt link is to be put into operation in December 2015.
