Lend Lease secures additional Victorian Regional Rail package

Lend Lease announced today that it has secured the Regional Rail Link (RRL): City – Maribyrnong River works package which forms part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Rail Link project.

The circa A$750 million project will be delivered through the RRL: City - Maribyrnong River alliance. Abigroup, part of Lend Lease’s Australian Construction Business is one of three constructors represented in the Alliance.

The work package involves the design and construction of new rail infrastructure for country passenger services between Footscray and Southern Cross stations in Melbourne. The scope of work includes new tracks, bridge works, signalling and upgrades to the existing network.

Lend Lease Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr Steve McCann, said the contract further demonstrates Lend Lease’s capability to deliver major infrastructure projects.

“We are very pleased to continue our relationship with the Victorian Government to deliver another stage of the Regional Rail Link,” said Mr McCann. “We are already working on the new metropolitan passenger rail facilities between Deer Park and Werribee in Melbourne’s west.

“This is a significant infrastructure project for Victoria that will remove bottlenecks in the rail system in Melbourne and support its continued growth.”

Construction will commence in May 2012, and is scheduled for completion in 2016.
