Lend Lease part of consortium nominated preferred on prison project

Lend Lease today announced that the seNTinel Joint Venture has been nominated as the preferred consortium for a contract from the Northern Territory Government for the Northern Territory Secure Facilities, a Public Private Partnership project to finance, design, construct and maintain a new prison project in Darwin, Northern Territory.

Baulderstone, part of Lend Lease’s Australian infrastructure business, is undertaking the role of design and construction contractor in a 70/30 joint venture with Sitzler Pty Ltd.

The project consists of an 800 bed correctional centre with capacity for additional 200 beds; 30 bed mental health and behavioural management centre; 48 bed supported accommodation and programs centre and ancillary support buildings and infrastructure. The project is located on a 200 hectare greenfield site approximately 40 minutes drive from Darwin.

Lend Lease Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr Steve McCann, welcomed this latest award, saying this was the first correctional facility that the Group has secured in the Northern Territory and builds upon Baulderstone’s experience in successfully delivering correctional facilities in Queensland and Victoria.

“We look forward to working with the Northern Territory Government on this significant project,” said Mr McCann.

The contract will commence late calendar year 2011 with practical completion expected in 2014.
