LaserBond awarded $500k Federal Govt. Climate Change Grant

LaserBond Limited (ASX: LBL) today announced it has been awarded a $500,000 grant under the Australian Federal Government’s “Retooling for Climate Change” programme. The grant was awarded to LaserBond to augment the development and commercialisation of its unique laser cladding technology and substantially reduce energy usage and green house gas emissions amongst its range of blue-chip customers.

LaserBond’s unique technology reduces the need for new replacement parts by significantly increasing the life of existing components, ensuring that wastage and energy usage in fabrication and manufacture are minimised. LaserBond reclaims, refurbishes, manufactures, and optimises the performance of critical components for a range of capital intensive industries such as the mining and resource sector.

LaserBond’s Executive Director, Wayne Hooper said: “LaserBond has developed its leading edge laser cladding technology to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, and the Federal Government Grant is a strong endorsement of our technology.

“Our customers are of some of the world’s largest industrial, and mining and resources companies, and the work we have done to date has not only significantly reduced CAPEX for many companies, but also help them to minimise the impact on the environment.

“LaserBond provides customers with a “green” alternative to regularly scrapping and replacing worn parts, saving energy and conserving the raw materials used in the manufacturing process.

“As an example, the manufacture of a machine component from 1 tonne of steel, will typically consume more than 30GJ (Gigajoule) or more of energy. LaserBond routinely utilises its unique portfolio of technologies to reclaim the same part with less than 1 GJ of energy consumed.

“With the support of the Federal Government, LaserBond will be able to install new equipment which will reduce the company’s own energy usage and overall cost base. This will enhance the proposition of reduced environmental impact and make our technology even more attractive amongst our range of potential customers.”
