HISTORY OF NANT

• Nant is located in the Central Highlands of Tasmania, 1000 ft above sea level

• Edward Nicholas was first settler in the region in 1821, followed by Bothwell in 1822

• He chartered The Grace and spent three months travelling, settling in Bothwell

• As the son of a miller he brought his own mill with him on the voyage including the French Burr mill stones, still in operation today

• Mill stones were found 200 years later at the bottom of mill pond during restoration they are now the only water powered flour mill still in commercial operation in Australia

• By the early 19[th] century there were 16 whisky distilleries in Tasmania until Governor John Franklin shut them down and Australia didn’t start producing whisky again for another 150 years in 1991

NANT ESTATE TODAY

• The farm complex at Nant contains 13 heritage listed buildings all built by convict labour and sandstone that has been quarried off the estate

• Very big tourism opportunity

• Distilling started in 2008 at the Nant Estate

• The first Nant bottling was in 2010, 300 bottles out of Blood Tubs

WHISKY

• The Nant water comes from the Central Plateau of Tasmania which is made up of 3000 lakes

• Nant uses traditional copper pot distillation methods and timber wash backs

• Nant is the only distillery in the Tasmanian Highlands of its kind

• Due to the smaller barrels Nant uses and the fluctuation of temperature from -12 to 30 degrees in a year 4-5 year old Nant whisky can be much like a 10-18 year old whisky from Scotland

• The Nant Bourbon casks are from Kentucky, Port casks from Portugal, Sherry casks from Spain and Pinot Noir casks from Tasmania

• Subject to completion of the acquisition, Australian Whisky Holdings Limited will commission another increased capacity distillery in 2017 on the Nant site using the two Scottish made copper stills we will acquire
