LANXESS Q3 earnings exceed forecast

Leverkusen - Specialty chemicals company LANXESS substantially improved its
operating performance in the third quarter of 2009 compared to the previous
quarter. EBITDA pre exceptionals was at EUR143 million, up 28 percent from
the second quarter of 2009 (Q2 2009: EUR112 million). Compared to the
prior-year period, EBITDA pre exceptionals declined by 26 percent (Q3 2008:
EUR192 million).

LANXESS has thus exceeded the earnings forecast given in August when
second-quarter 2009 figures were published. The forecast then was for Q3
EBITDA pre exceptionals to be around the same level as in the second
quarter of 2009.

The global economic environment remains challenging despite improvements
since the pace of the economic recovery varies from one region to another.
