Lloyd Fonds AG: USD 57 million successfully placed for the A380 aircraft fund in Korea

Lloyd Fonds A380 Singapore Airlines aircraft fund fully placed

Substantial improvement in forecast return for subscribers

Positive contribution to Lloyd Fonds AG’s earnings in 2014

Hamburg, October 6, 2014. Lloyd Fonds AG has successfully placed an institutional mezzanine tranche for its A380 Singapore Airlines aircraft fund in Korea. Closed on October 3, 2014, the transaction was managed by the South Korean investment company Hi Investment & Securities, a member of the Hyundai Group, which also owns one of the world’s largest shipyard groups. Consequently, the fund is now fully placed.

The aircraft fund had acquired the A380 for USD 185 million. The lessee for a minimum period of 10 years is Singapore Airlines, one of the world’s most successful airlines. A renewal option of up to a further five years may be exercised at the end of the initial lease. The airline’s majority shareholder is Temasek Holdings, a state-owned Singapore company, with the highest possible AAA and Aaa rating awarded by Standard & Poor’s and Moody’s, respectively. Accordingly, the fund is characterized by very stable revenue inflows. Singapore Airlines is currently using the aircraft on routes between Singapore, Paris, Hong Kong, London and Frankfurt.

According to the prospectus, the aircraft fund will be distributing payouts of 7.2 percent to the subscribers from 2015. As the institutional mezzanine tranche is subject to relatively low interest rates in view of the general market conditions, subscribers can expect to achieve a substantially greater overall return on their investment than originally planned.

This outcome, which is very favorable for the fund and for its subscribers, was made possible by the joint management skills of Lloyd Fonds AG and EastMerchant Capital GmbH. Lloyd Fonds AG will generate a cash inflow of around USD 1 million from the successful placement between now and 2015.

“In a challenging market environment we have been able to place the mezzanine tranche of our attractive aircraft fund with institutional investors in Korea, simultaneously enhancing the return on the current subscribers’ investment in the fund. In this way, we are demonstrating the success of the strategy which we have adopted of increasingly also addressing institutional investors. It also testifies to the quality of our active asset management in the interests of our subscribers. It has also not passed our attention that the new investor in our aircraft fund also happens to belong to the world’s largest shipyard group,” says Dr. Torsten Teichert, CEO of Lloyd Fonds AG.
