KGL strengthens Board and management with experienced resource industry appointments to progress Jervois Copper Project towards development
KGL Resources Limited (ASX code: KGL) (KGL or the Company) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr John Gooding and Ms Fiona Murdoch as Directors and Mr Paul Richardson to a key executive position as the Company’s Jervois Copper Project is advanced towards development.
Mr Chris Bain has resigned as a director of the Company effective as of the end of June 2018.
Welcoming Mr Gooding, Ms Murdoch and Mr Richardson to the Company, the Chairman of KGL, Denis Wood, said they would bring valuable skills and experience at a time when KGL was working towards project construction next year and production start-up in 2020. He thanked Mr Bain for his valuable contribution to the Company’s strategy and governance during almost five years on the board.
“Mr Gooding is a leading Australian mining industry figure who possesses an intense knowledge of copper mining among his broad skills in mine development and operational management, while Ms Murdoch is highly regarded for her commercial experience in mining and infrastructure. We are most fortunate that they wish to join KGL in building a robust project at Jervois where we have just announced a larger, higher grade copper resource as the copper industry enters a period of rising markets,” Mr Wood said.
Mr Richardson joins KGL as the Project Director for the Jervois Copper Project and will be based on site at Jervois in the Northern Territory.
“Mr Richardson has the project development skills and in-depth mining management experience that KGL needs now,” Mr Wood said. “As a mineral processing engineer who has held Resident Manager, General Manager and Project Director roles in the resources industry, he brings important complementary attributes to the Company’s management team.”
Mr Richardson is a Mineral Processing Engineer with over 35 years’ experience in mining. Currently based in Perth, he has held senior positions in Australian resources companies including Manager Operations at St Barbara Mines Limited, General Manager at Allegiance Metals Pty Ltd, General Manager at BCD Resources NL and Project Director at Avenira Limited. He has extensive experience in project feasibility and development including development of the Avebury Nickel Project in Tasmania and the Gadde Bissik Phosphate Project in Senegal, as well as feasibility studies for the Wonarah Phosphate Project in the Northern Territory.
Mr Gooding, a mining engineer, is an experienced company director and senior executive. His executive background covers a wide range of resources industry activities from mining, smelting and refining operations, to sales and marketing, major capital projects and financial, commercial and people management. He completed his executive career in late 2016 after almost 10 years as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Highlands Pacific Limited. His previous senior executive positions included Chief Executive Officer of Xstrata’s Australian Copper and Zinc Business, Executive General Manager of M.I.M. Holdings Limited’s Mount Isa Business Unit including UK operations, and Executive General Manager Operations for Normandy Mining Limited.
Mr Gooding has held board positions on resource companies for more than 11 years, and is currently Chairman of two ASX-listed companies, Hillgrove Resources Limited and Kasbah Resources Limited.
Ms Murdoch, a lawyer, MBA and AICD graduate, has more than 27 years’ commercial experience in the resources, infrastructure and other industries in executive and non-executive roles. She rose to become Business Development Manager at M.I.M. Holdings Limited and Xstrata Queensland and held senior executive positions with Seqwater. She is currently General Manager Commercial for the resources industry investment company AMCI Investments Pty Ltd and a partner in Neuchatel Partners, providing specialist corporate advisory services to mining companies and utilities.
Ms Murdoch is a non-executive director of metallurgical services companies Core Resources Pty Ltd and Toowong Process Pty Ltd.
