July was the busiest month ever at Copenhagen Airport with 2,313,542
passengers, representing a 1.3% year-on-year increase that was driven by
international traffic.
The enthusiasm for travel of the northern Europeans is directly reflected in
July's travel statistics from Copenhagen Airport. The month was the busiest
ever with 2.3 million passengers. While the total number of passengers was up
by 1.3%, the number of departing passengers rose by as much as 2.7%, showing
that the Danes started their holidays later than last year, in many cases so
late that they will not return until August.
"Copenhagen Airport has recorded 4.1% substantial growth in international
traffic. And this urge to travel made July the busiest month ever in the
history of Copenhagen Airport, even with the Cimber Sterling bankruptcy and the
late start to the holidays, which would otherwise reduce the figure," said
Carsten Nørland, VP, Sales & Marketing for Copenhagen Airport.
The number of transfer passengers rose by 6.4% year-on-year. Copenhagen is
increasingly becoming a transfer airport for more and more Scandinavians as
well as for travellers from the Baltic States, Poland , Germany and the
Midlands in the UK, and this serves to strengthen Copenhagen Airport's position
as a northern European transport hub. Domestic traffic was down by 31.1%, but
it is likely to stabilise over the next few months as and when airlines fill
the gap after the Cimber Sterling bankruptcy. On 13 August, Danish domestic
airport Billund will again have direct flights to Copenhagen when SAS opens a
new service between the two airports.
Year to date, 13,583,044 passengers have travelled through Copenhagen Airport,
which represents a 3.7% increase over the same period of 2011. In light of the
record number of passengers, operations during the summer have been
satisfactory.
