Press release

Brussels, 17 February 2017

KBC is pleased to announce the appointment of Johan Thijs as Chairman of Febelfin

During their meeting today, the Boards of Directors of Febelfin (the Belgian Financial Sector Federation) and the Belgian Bankers' and Stockbroking Firms' Association appointed Johan Thijs, KBC Group CEO, to the position of chairman for a period of three years. With effect from today, Johan Thijs will take over the chair of Febelfin from Rik Vandenberghe, the CEO of ING Belgium until the end of February.

Johan Thijs had this to say about his appointment: 'I am delighted and honoured, not just for myself but for KBC, that Febelfin and the Belgian Bankers' and Stockbroking Firms' Association have invited me to take up this post for the next three years. I have many years' experience as CEO of both KBC Belgium and KBC Group NV, as well as a deep knowledge of European and international financial affairs. I have a keen interest in new developments on the economic, technological and legal fronts, and in how our sector can best respond to them. I hope that this experience, knowledge and healthy degree of curiosity will stand me in good stead when advising and guiding the Belgian financial sector in these challenging but exciting times. I look forward to entering into a constructive dialogue with the various stakeholders regarding the future of the financial sector.'

Johan Thijs becomes Chairman of Febelfin today and his term of office will end in 2020.
