HIGHLIGHTS
-
Subsidiary PT Jatoil Waterland enters agreement to make final land payment.
-
Cash flow positive operations expected upon completed allocation, processing and shipment of stored Jatropha seed.
-
Opportunity to further use plantation area for growing Camelina as a complementary biofuel intercrop under review.
The board of energy company Jatenergy Limited is pleased to announce that its investment into PT Jatoil Waterland has resulted in revenues and profit, three years since signing of the original contract in 2009.
Under Jatenergy’s original agreement with PT Waterland Asia Bio Ventures for the establishment of PT Jatoil Waterland, Jatenergy initially paid for over 60% of the full 25 year land access fee for the Jatropha fields. The remaining fee was to be paid from profit obtained from the sale of Jatropha seed. The final payment has now been made based on seed allocated for exclusive use by a Dutch power station.
Jatenergy has excess stored seed and processed oil stockpiled and ready for export at Semarang harbour, representing a profit for the company. With ongoing harvests, a continued return for the company is expected.
Led by Dr William Nolten, Waterland’s agro-forestry projects use a proven business model that includes collection, processing and quality control programs coupled with mature fields. For a relatively minor upfront investment, Jatenergy’s 2000 hectares of Jatropha now provides a modest but earlier-than-expected positive return to the company. Combined with the reopening of its Jongkang coal operations, this development sees Jatenergy moving closer to being fully cashflow positive.

Jatenergy recently announced investments from China totalling $1.5 million, which will be used to increase the profitability of our Jatropha fields, expand our coal operations, and seek partnerships for the Coal Plus coal upgrading technology. For our biofuel business we are reviewing the potential use of Camelina . Camelina is an oilseed crop that can be used to produce vegetable oil and animal feed. The plant needs

little water or nitrogen to flourish, making it suitable for use on marginal agricultural lands. It may also be used as a rotation crop to increase the health of the soil, potentially increasing productivity from each hectare of land.
