ASX/Media announcement
21 September 2011
Jatenergy’s Queensland Coal Tenement Purchase Progresses
Jatenergy Limited (ASX code: JAT) today said that progress was being made towards completion of its acquisition of 10 coal exploration permits and permit applications from Spinifex Rural Management Pty Ltd and Demycoal Pty Ltd. The tenements are located in the Galilee and Bowen Basins in Queensland, areas known for good quality thermal and coking coal deposits.
Jatenergy Chief Executive Officer Phil Hodgson said: “We have completed our examination of the available data on the tenements and we are also continuing to talk with parties who are interested in their development.
“There have been some very exciting transactions involving coal tenements in the Galilee Basin recently, including an investment of $US1.26 billion by Indian group GVK Power and Infrastructure in three coal mining projects owned by Gina Reinhart’s Hancock Prospecting.” Two tenement applications that are part of Jatenergy’s package, EPCA 1988 and EPCA 2020, are located 22km and 55km respectively from Hancock’s Alpha coal project.
The attached brochure provides a summary of the assessment to date of the tenements subject to the purchase agreement by Jatenergy. Mr Hodgson said the transfer of the granted permits, EPC 2102 and EPC 1956, was in process and was expected to occur during the next few months. He added that the remaining applications were expected to be granted progressively within the first quarter of 2012, subject to the relevant approvals. The two competing permit applications in the Bowen Basin, EPCA 2152 and EPCA 2153, had not been granted to Demycoal Pty Ltd and no consideration would be paid for either of these tenements.
Jatenergy Limited is also currently conducting an Entitlement Issue in which eligible shareholders are offered an option for every 2 shares held as at the Record Date of 23 August 2011. The issue is expected to raise approximately $393,000 before costs. The Entitlement Issue Prospectus has been dispatched to shareholders and is also available on the Company’s web site. The Entitlement Issue closes at 5pm on September 23[rd] 2011.

About Jatenergy
Jatenergy Limited (ABN 31 122 826 242) is a Sydney-based energy company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX code: JAT). The company is pursuing a dual strategy based on developing a portfolio of both conventional and renewable energy assets. These include coal projects in Indonesia and Australia, and biofuel feedstock operations in Indonesia.
The company is of the view that, while renewable energy will become increasingly mainstream over the coming decades, conventional energy sources will continue to play an important role. Jatenergy’s mission is to be an important player in both the coal sector and in the production of renewable biofuels.
Jatenergy’s dual project development strategy diversifies the company’s potential sources of revenue and mitigates development risks, while building on the Company’s existing experience and contacts in Indonesia. Where possible, the Company is looking to use depleted coal fields for reforestation with oil-bearing crops such as jatropha to extend the life of project sites, while providing local communities with renewable energy and employment opportunities.

legislation, and it is unclear at this stage if it will be affected.
EPCA 2117
EPCA 2117 comprises four sub-blocks centred on the town of Glenden in Central Queensland. Glenden is a township of approximately 1300, predominately housing XStrata coal employees that work the Newlands underground and open-cut operations. The Queensland government has declared a 2 km exclusion zone on new exploration applications proximate to towns of more than 1000 people. EPCA 2117 predates thi ~~s~~ proposed
EPCA 2117 is situated 20 km east of Xstrata’s Suttor Creek Mine and 16 km northwest of Rio Tinto’s Lake Elphinstone project. A single EPC granted to a whollyowned subsidiary of Macarthur Coal completely surrounds EPCA 2117. Rio Tinto, Vale and Xstrata hold exploration permits for coal near to but not contiguous with the border of EPCA 2117.
Railheads are established at Newlands and Hail Creek to the northwest and

southeast respectively, with the nearer Newlands railhead (~25 km), providing access to the Abbot Point coal terminal. EPCA 2117 offers:
-
A proximal point of observation and supporting seismic data that suggests a seismic reflector that may correspond to a thick seam (5–6 m) of good quality thermal coal of the Rangal Coal Measures, with good lateral continuity occurring at a depth of 550–750 m.
-
Limited faulting or folding.
-
Proximity to existing infrastructure.
EPC 2102
EPC 2102 (Moranbah project) is located in the northern Bowen Basin, approximately 190 km southwest of Mackay. The town of Moranbah (population ~7200) covers around 5 km[2] of the tenement. The Queensland government has declared a 2 km exclusion zone on new exploration applications proximate to towns of more than 1000 people. EPC 2102 is a granted permit and predates this proposed legislation, and it is unclear at this stage if it will be affected.
EPC 2102 is accessed via the Peak Downs Highway. Rail connection to the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal passes 1 km to the west. Powerlines and water infrastructure that supply the town of Moranbah are within the tenement.
EPC 2102 is surrounded and partly encroached by Anglo Coal’s Grosvenor Mineral Development Licence (MDL) and proximal to the iconic Peak Downs coal mine. All of EPC 2102 coincides with part of a production Petroleum Lease granted to CH4 Limited in June 2008 for a period of 20 years.
The Grosvenor underground operation is intended to produce up to 7 Mtpa of run-of-mine (ROM) coal, processed to yield approximately 5 Mtpa of coking coal for export. The project’s mine life is expected to be 30 years. BHP Coal’s Peak Downs mining lease was granted in 1983, with measured and indicated resources of around 1500 Mt.
EPCA 2117 is located 20 km east of Xstrata’s Suttor Creek mine and 16 km northwest of Rio Tinto’s Lake Elphinstone project. EPC 2102 is proximal to the iconic Peak Downs coal mine and surrounded by Anglo Coal’s Grosvenor project, which is expected to produce 5 Mtpa of coking coal for export.

EPCA 2001
EPCA 2001 comprises 12 sub-blocks 32 km west of Rolleston in central Queensland. The tenement’s southeastern border is contiguous with Xstrata’s Rolleston Mine. EPCA 2001 is bound to the west, north and east by EPC 1517, which hosts Endocoal’s Orion Downs project. Both Guildford Coal and Xstrata Coal Queensland either hold exploration permits for coal or have submitted competing applications over ground to the tenement’s south.
Projects located around and including the area covered by EPCA 2001 benefit from established rail infrastructure at Rolleston Mine (the Bauhinia rail link), which connects to Gladstone’s port facilities.
EPCA 2001 offers:
-
Reported coal intersections in the Aldebaran Sandstone—4.5 m net coal over 194 m, including a section containing three seams with 3 m net coal over a 50 m interval—in a CSG well collared 3 km to the tenement’s south. This stratigraphic unit occurs at shallow depths and is likely to have significant strike potential within EPCA 2001.
-
Reports from adjacent tenement holders of coal intersections in the Freitag Formation.
