Intelligent Ultrasound Group PLC

23 September 2019

Intelligent Ultrasound Group plc

("Intelligent Ultrasound" or the "Group")

Ultrasound AI database exceeds four million images

Intelligent Ultrasound (AIM: MED), the intelligent ultrasound software and simulation company, announces that its database used in the development of its artificial intelligence ("AI") products now exceeds four million ultrasound images.

The continued growth of the Group's image database is an important component of the Company's strategy, as the image library will help it develop additional AI-based software solutions that can automatically recognise and assess ultrasound images to improve the speed and quality of medical ultrasound scanning across a number of clinical applications.

In July 2019, the Group announced that it had signed its first long term licence and co-development agreement for its AI software with one of the world's leading ultrasound equipment manufacturers. The long-term agreement will enable the integration of Intelligent Ultrasound's real-time image analysis software onto a range of specialty specific ultrasound systems within the global healthcare market.

The Group's range of AI-based software aims to boost scanning quality and to streamline sonographer workflow in medical ultrasound areas such as anaesthesiology, obstetrics, gynaecology, radiology and primary care medicine.

Commenting, Nicholas Sleep, CTO at Intelligent Ultrasound said: "The continued growth of our image database is a key component of our AI development strategy and we are delighted to now have over four million images in the library. Automated image analysis has the potential to have a huge impact on the medical imaging market and our expanding image database will enable us to continue to develop new AI software products that we believe will be attractive to the major equipment manufactures in the global ultrasound market."

About Intelligent Ultrasound

Intelligent Ultrasound (AIM: MED) develops artificial intelligence-based clinical image analysis software tools for the diagnostic medical ultrasound market and hi-fidelity virtual reality simulators for the ultrasound training market.

Based in Cardiff and Oxford in the UK, Atlanta in the US and with representation in Beijing in Asia, the Group operates two divisions:

Clinical AI Division

Focusses on developing deep learning-based algorithms to make ultrasound machines smarter and more accessible. Products in development include ScanNav which uses machine-learning based algorithms to automatically identify and grade ultrasound images to provide scan assessment and audit of protocol-based ultrasound scanning; and ScanNav AnatomyGuide, which aims to simplify ultrasound-guided needling by providing the user with real-time AI-based needle guidance software for a range of medical procedures.

Simulation Division

Focusses on hi-fidelity ultrasound education and training through simulation.  Its three main products are the ScanTrainer OBGYN training simulator, the HeartWorks echocardiography training simulator and the BodyWorks Eve Point of Care and Emergency Medicine training simulator.  To date over 800 simulators have been sold to almost 500 medical institutions around the world.
