BrainZ transitions Board for next phase of growth

BrainZ welcomes new Chairman, Dr Damian Pethica

4 January 2008: BrainZ Instruments (ASX:BZI) announced today that life sciences specialist, Dr Damian Pethica, would be joining the Board as Chairman. At the same time, Mike Smith announced his resignation as both Chairman and a Director of the company.

BrainZ is extremely privileged to have the benefit of Dr Pethica’s expertise. Dr Pethica worked for Ciba-Geigy in Basel, Switzerland, as a group head in the medical department, pharmaceutical division, and then as Medical Director of Ciba-Geigy New Zealand. Following the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz, he became Medical Director of Novartis New Zealand. He subsequently joined Flemings in London as a biotechnology equities research analyst. After the acquisition of Flemings he became Vice President, Biotechnology Equity Research for Europe for JPMorganChase. Dr Pethica was educated at Oxford University (mathematics) and London University (medicine), and was in general medical practice for about seven years. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Physicians, Royal College of Physicians London, a current authorised representative of JT Campbell & Co where he has previously provided research coverage on the company and is a current member of the Medicines Assessment Advisory Committee, New Zealand.

BrainZ would like to thank outgoing Chairman, Mike Smith, for his extraordinary efforts as founding Chairman of the company, and in particular for guiding the company to its initial public offering in 2005.

Dr Pethica will now lead the board as it directs the company into its next phase of growth, in particular focusing on various merger and acquisition opportunities.
