HMS Bergbau AG carries out exploration in Poland

Subsidiary Silesian Coal holds two exploration licences for the Orzesze and Studzionka-Mizerów regions

Exploration drilling started in the Orzesze licence area in June 2014

It is estimated that the areas have more than 1 billion tonnes of resources

HMS Bergbau AG will apply for a mining licence and is expected to receive one in the next eight to twelve months

Berlin, 2 July 2014: HMS Bergbau AG, an international coal supplier with operating expertise of coal mining, transport and trade will drill two exploration wells at Silesian Coal Sp. z o.o. (previously Śląski Węgiel Żory – Suszec Sp. z o.o) – a wholly owned subsidiary of HMS Bergbau AG. Both drills in the Orzesze licence area will have a depth of 1,000 m.

Drilling began on 23 June 2014. Silesian Coal Sp. z o.o. will apply for a mining licence for the Orzesze region based on this drilling and historical drilling results. HMS Bergbau AG acquired subsidiary Silesian Coal, which holds two exploration licences for the Orzesze and Studzionka-Mizerów regions, in January 2014.

It is estimated that the areas, both of which are located in Silesia, boast over 1 billion tonnes of geological coal resources. The company expects to receive mining licences in eight to twelve months’ time – subject to the approval of the approving authorities.

“Given the fact that high quality coking coal has been mined here for decades, we are confident that we will find reserves throughout the area. Accordingly, we are optimistic with regard to the results of two exploration wells”, commented Dr. Markowski, President of Silesian Coal Sp. z o.o.

“By accessing the resources, we will strengthen our market position in Europe and will be able to act independently from other procurement channels. From today’s perspective, the exploration in the Silesian areas will have a lasting positive impact on the revenues and earnings of the Company”, commented Heinz Schernikau, CEO of HMS Bergbau AG.
