PRE-PILOT PLANT UPDATE
PERTH, 4[th] MAY 2017: Hazer Group Ltd (“Hazer” or “the Company”) (ASX:HZR, HZRO) wishes to provide an update to the market following the successful construction and hot commissioning (first graphite production) of the company’s pre-pilot plant (PPP).
As stated in the ASX announcement dated 5[th] April 2017, Hazer anticipated the PPP to be fully commissioned and operational by the end of April. The Company has experienced some delays in completing the commissioning process, and now anticipates the PPP to be fully commissioned and operational by early July 2017.
This extension is due to the need to finalise a number of items to ensure full compliance with all relevant safety and materials handling requirements, prior to progression into full operational mode. This includes finalisation of administrative controls and systems, site procedures, operating protocols, training and documentation and includes fine tuning based on early commissioning learnings.
Like all significant engineering development projects, successful scale-up and commissioning requires not only expert design and development work, but also substantial compliance and safety protocols. Due to this, timeframe extensions for significant development projects are not uncommon across the industry during the commissioning phase.
Geoff Pocock, Managing Director of Hazer, stated “It is disappointing that these procedures have taken more time than originally anticipated, however as we move into the next stage of operations it is critical that we create and maintain the appropriate culture of operational compliance and safety. Ensuring that the Pre-Pilot Plant is able to operate with the maximum level of safety for operators and others is our number one priority”
The required issues do not affect the potential viability of the Hazer Process itself, or the ability of the plant to operate as required. Furthermore, the company anticipates the extension will not materially affect the ongoing stages of operation and estimated timeframes previously announced, and Hazer remains on track to start fully continuous operation by late 2017.
Updated Timeline;
-
Final Construction – Complete
-
First Hydrogen and Graphite production– Complete
-
Fully Commissioned – July 2017
-
Start Semi-Continuous Operation – Q3 2017
-
Start Fully Continuous Operation – Late 2017
Once fully operational, the PPP will be used to generate validation and optimisation data that will be necessary for the design and construction of larger plants. Hazer looks forward to updating the market when final commissioning is complete.
