The Munglinup Project
Tenements
The Munglinup Project is located in far south Western Australia, approximately 100km west of the town of Esperance. The Project is located along strike, and is contiguous with the eastern and southern sides of the Halbert’s Main Munglinup Graphite Deposit (1.47Mt at 18.2% fixed carbon), which is held by Graphite Australia Pty Ltd. (See location in figure 2) Recent work by Lithex at Munglinup has increased the prospectivity of the Lithex Project area to host nickel sulphide deposits.
The Greater Munglinup Project covers a total area of 579 km[2] over seven tenements – four of which are granted Exploration Licences and three are licences under application with the Western Australia Department of Mines and Petroleum. Two of these licence applications were made during the Quarter (E74/544 and E74/545). These two ELA areas are prospective for nickel sulphides and gold mineralisation.

Munglinup Central Assays
Final assays were received for the second set of samples taken from the four hole diamond drill program conducted at the Munglinup Central tenement, (E74/518) (Table 1) during the previous Quarter. The drilling program targeted a large SkyTEM geophysical anomaly interpreted to possibly represent graphite mineralisation on the Munglinup Central tenement. In addition to high grade graphite intersected in MCDD004 (up to 1.9m @ 34.9% Total Graphitic Carbon - (ASX announcement 5 July, 2013)), zones of anomalous copper, nickel and PGEs (platinum group elements) were confirmed by laboratory analysis (see Table 2).

Lithex Resources Limited (ASX: LTX)
Bureau Veritas Laboratory in Perth assayed 144 diamond drill core samples, including QA/QC samples. Samples were taken at nominally 1.0 m intervals, and assayed for a base and precious metal suite. Samples were fused with Sodium Peroxide and dissolved in dilute hydrochloric acid for analysis by ICPOES/MS. Samples for Au, Pt and Pd analysis were prepared by the fire assay process and analysed by ICP-MS. An additional 90 samples, originally analysed for graphite, were also assayed by these methods, as previously announced (ASX Announcement: 29 July, 2013).
Lithex considers these results to be potentially indicative of a nickel sulphide bearing system in the vicinity and, combined with the strong, high priority VTEM targets previously announced, significantly enhances the prospectivity of the broader Munglinup Project. Additionally, whilst not of significance for a nickel sulphide deposit model, the high levels of zinc and manganese, in addition to nickel and copper, in the upper section of MCDD001, are of interest for potential Broken Hill style deposits, at present unknown in this area.
Munglinup Project Geological Review
The Company engaged Dr. Jon Hronsky, of Western Mining Services, to review the nickel sulphide potential of the Munglinup Project, in the context of data gathered to date. Dr. Hronsky has particular expertise in targeting for nickel sulphide deposits, and his work led to the discovery of the West Musgrave nickel sulphide province in Western Australia. Key observations and outcomes of the review were:
-
From a nickel exploration perspective, the most significant result from this work is the widespread hydrothermal veining and alteration, with associated low-level Cu-Pt-Pd anomalism, that has been intersected in all four holes drilled on E74/518. Excluding zones of supergene enrichment, maximum values are of the order of 500 ppm Cu and 50 ppb Pt+Pd.
-
The Cu-Pd-Pt anomalous veining/alteration is consistent with the distal expression of a nickel sulphide deposit (Figure 2 – Conceptual Model).
-
No high-MgO komatiite rocks, which are the primary host for NiS mineralisation, were encountered in these drill holes. However, it is plausible that the intersection of high-MgO basalt, bordering on low-MgO komatiite in MCDD003 might represent the upper part of a sequence that contained such rocks at its base. The anomalously low Ni contents of these rocks may represent the distal signature of a sulphide-saturation event that occurred lower in the sequence.
-
On a regional scale, it is clear that the Munglinup region hosts significant strike-lengths of Ni-S prospective ultramafic rocks.
-
In summary, it is reasonable to consider the Munglinup region to represent an effectively totally unexplored strike extension to a known nickel sulphide mineralised province.
The Company is highly encouraged by these findings, and the potential for the Munglinup Project to host nickel sulphide deposits along with graphite.

Munglinup North EM Survey
In March this year, an airborne VTEM survey was undertaken over tenements E74/517 and E74/531 (see Figure 2) by UTS Geophysics. The VTEM survey covered parts of the Munglinup Project that did not already have any existing EM data. Preliminary results were encouraging, with a number of notable anomalies identified.
Processing of the airborne VTEM survey data and interpretation and target generation has now been completed. Numerous targets for both nickel sulphides and graphite mineralisation were generated from this work. ( Figure 4 ) The results of the recent diamond drilling program at Munglinup Central, where anomalous levels of nickel, copper and platinum group elements have been detected, further enhance the prospectivity of the identified VTEM targets.

Munglinup Project – Young River Prospect
An application for a new Exploration Licence (E74/538) is pending with the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum.
Importantly, the Exploration Licence under application contains the Young River Graphite Deposit – an area comprising known historical graphite occurrences. The area is also considered prospective for nickel sulphide and vermiculite mineralisation and it hosts a small nickel laterite deposit known as Boanaernup.
A VTEM geophysical survey is planned for late November/early December, 2013.

Furniss East Project
The Furniss East Project, located in southern Western Australia, is currently being investigated by the Company for the potential for graphite and Nova style nickel-copper deposits. Furniss East is located near the margin of the Yilgarn Craton, in the Albany-Fraser mobile belt, and is adjacent to the Rocky Gully nickel copper prospect, recently explored by Heron Resources Limited. (Figure 8)
Planned activities for the coming year include an airborne electromagnetic survey and geochemical sampling, and potentially drill testing if the results of these activities are promising.

Other Tenements
No material work was undertaken during the Quarter on any of the other tenements held by the Company.
Tenement Review and Rationalisation
As part of the cost cutting initiative commenced by the Company last Quarter, the Company has undertaken a review and assessment of all tenements held, with the aim of reducing tenement expenditure commitments across the project portfolio balanced against the commercial prospectivity of those tenements. This review has resulted in the relinquishment of several tenements from lower priority projects. (see Appendix 5B – Quarter ending September 30, 2013)
