Key appointment in the Company’s plans to transition from explorer to producer
West Australian kaolin and silica sand exploration company, Suvo Strategic Minerals Limited (‘Suvo’ or ‘the Company’), is pleased to announce the appointment of world-renowned industrial minerals geologist, Dr Ian Wilson, as a Non-Executive Director effective 1 September 2020. This appointment is consistent with the Company’s focus on an accelerated pathway to commercialisation of its flagship White Knight Kaolin project located some 210km northeast of Perth.
Dr Wilson is an Economic Geologist with 45 years’ international experience in industrial minerals. He has held key technical and management positions in major publicly listed mining companies including the world’s largest kaolin producer, Imerys and has held the position of Senior Scientific Officer in what is now the British Geological Survey. Between 1974-2001, Dr Wilson worked for English China Clays and Imerys on geological and project management activities worldwide. From 1981-1984 was General Manager of ECC do Brasil Mineração Ltda, Jundipeba, São Paulo producing kaolin and 1984-1985 Joint Managing Director of CEDESCA (a joint venture between Caobar, SA and ECC) at Poveda de la Sierra, Guadalajara, Spain, both producing kaolin for the paper industry. He was Project Manager for ECC’s new ground calcium carbonate (GCC) operations in Tunadal (Sweden) and Nanling, Anhui province, China.

Dr Wilson’s experience encapsulates exploration, resource estimation, project development and production including global marketing for a wide variety of industrial minerals including kaolin, halloysite, calcium carbonate, bentonite, magnesite and others. He is formally the secretary of the Mineralogical Society of London (Clay Minerals Group) and has been the convenor of multiple international conferences on clay minerals. In 2009 Ian was awarded the Hal William Hardinge award in recognition of his services to the industrial minerals industry.
Commenting on Dr Ian Wilson’s appointment to the Suvo Board, Executive Chairman, Robert Martin said: “Attracting someone of the calibre of Ian to our Board validates the significant potential we have with our White Knight Kaolin project. Ian has spent the last 45 years evaluating, testing, sourcing and commercialising kaolin deposits for some of the largest mines and end users of kaolin globally. We look forward to working with Ian to accelerate the development of our White Knight kaolin deposit here in Western Australia”
Approved by the Board of Directors.
