This joint announcement is made by Global Bio-chem Technology Group Company Limited and Global Sweeteners Holdings Limited (collectively, the “ companies ”) pursuant to Rule 13.09 of the Rules Governing the Listing of Securities on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (the “ Stock exchange ”).

The respective boards of directors of the Companies regret to announce that Mr. Xu Zhouwen (“ mr. Xu ”), one of the co-Chairmen and an executive director of Global Bio-chem Technology Group Company Limited and an executive director of Global Sweeteners Holdings Limited, passed away on 20 August 2012.

On behalf of all the staff of the Companies and their respective subsidiaries (collectively, the “ Group ”), the respective boards of directors of the Companies would like to convey their condolence to the family of Mr. Xu and express their sincere appreciation to Mr. Xu for his past invaluable contributions and services to the Group. The respective boards of directors of the Companies consider that the pass away of the late Mr. Xu will not have material impact on the present operations of the Group.

reSumpTion oF TradinG

At the request of the Companies, trading in the shares of the Companies on the Stock Exchange was suspended with effect from 1:51 p.m. on 20 August 2012 pending the release of this announcement. Application has been made by the Companies for the resumption of trading in the shares of the Companies on the Stock Exchange with effect from 9:00 a.m. on 21 August 2012.

As at the date of this announcement, the board of directors of Global Sweeteners Holdings Limited comprises three executive directors, namely Mr. Kong Zhanpeng, Mr. Zhang Fazheng and Mr. Lee Chi Yung and three independent non-executive directors, namely Mr. Chan Yuk Tong, Mr. Gao Yunchun and Mr. Ho Lic Ki.
