Stark has many years of international experience in top man-agement functions in mechanical and plant engineering as well as in the chemical industry. From 1991 to 2000, Stark was the CEO of AGIV AG, Frankfurt. In this function, he realigned the company’s broadly diversi-fied portfolio and created a highly profitable corporate group focused on mechanical engineering and measuring technology in which some 17,000 employees generated worldwide sales of DM 4.5 billion (approximately EUR 2.3 billion). The return on equity was over 20 percent. A change in the shareholder structure of the major shareholder BHF Bank AG led to a concentration on banking activities. Stark effected the necessary divestments at AGIV in a way that added value to the company and at the same time respected the interests of the employees, works council, and trade unions by finding suitable industrial or finan-cial partners. A business management expert who speaks several languages, Stark started his professional career with Röchling in 1970. After completing a two-year MBA program at Harvard, he joined the international chemical company Akzo Nobel NV in 1973. He held various management func-tions there and in 1989 became chairman of the executive board of Enka AG and member of the management committee of Akzo with world-wide responsibilities.
