Executive appointment

GDI[1] is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr David Ockenden to the newly created role of Head of Development. Having worked with GDI in a similar role, albeit as a consultant for a number of years, during this time Mr Ockenden has delivered DA approved schemes for Westralia Square 2 (WS2) and 1 Mill Street, Perth. With the construction of WS2 anticipated to commence within a month, and GDI actively seeking pre commitments to facilitate the commencement of 1 Mill Street, both GDI and Mr Ockenden have agreed that it would be mutually beneficial to establish permanent employment terms.

Prior to his period consulting, Mr Ockenden was Development Director, WA, for Lendlease, and prior to that a Director at Brookfield Multiplex. As part of these roles Mr Ockenden was responsible for the delivery of such iconic buildings as Brookfield Place (Towers 1 and 2, BHP and Deloitte buildings) and Bishops See.

Mr Steve Gillard, Managing Director of GDI, commented that Mr Ockenden’s appointment to GDI’s executive team would complement the existing skills of the organisation. “David’s appointment will enable us to look at all of our assets and opportunities through a new lens. Although we are not changing our strategy to become a developer, a good proportion of the assets that we review and anticipate buying in the future have ‘value add’ opportunities that will include an element of development. David’s unique skills will help us to maximise the value of not only our existing assets, but those that we will buy in the future.” Mr Gillard stated.

Mr Ockenden’s appointment is effective immediately.
