DEM EBT (IAS/first half of 2001); 3.25 mill. members (end of June 2001) – During the first half of 2001, freenet.de AG resolutely continued to pursue its clear growth strategy. Despite the tough market environment, the company was able to increase its sales from e-commerce and advertising during the first half of 2001, as compared to the first half of 2000. Thus, e-commerce revenues in the period under review rose by 143 %, from 2.3 mill. DEM to 5.6 mill. DEM; meanwhile, advertising revenues increased by nearly 30 %, from 4.6 mill. DEM to 5.9 mill. DEM during the same period. Adding in sales from connectivity (11.9 mill. DEM) and B2B services (1.7 mill. DEM), total sales amounts to 25.2 mill. DEM for the first half of 2001: a significant increase of 45 % compared to 17.4 mill. DEM in the first half of 2000 – and 87 % gross profit margin. During the first half of 2001, EBT are on track, at -13.46 mill. DEM after -6.0 mill. DEM for the first half of 2000, and were characterized by heavy investments in building the customer and organizational base, as well as investments in select acquisitions and subsidiaries to build the group into its present size. The group result for the first half of 2001 amounted to -8.1 mill. DEM (-3.36 mill. DEM for first half of 2000). Thus, advertising sales in Q2/2001 rose by 9 % over Q1/2001, from 2.8 mill. DEM to 3.1 mill. DEM, and sales from e-commerce increased by 15 %, from 2.6 mill. DEM to 3.0 mill. DEM. The drop in sales from connectivity in Q2/2001 (by minus 12 % to 5.58 mill. DEM in Q2/2001 as compared to 6.35 mill. DEM in Q1/2001) is a result of the freenet.de rates offensive, which, as already one year ago, was launched in the second calendar quarter. In Q2/2000 this revenue segment went down by 22 % as well; in Q2/2001, it is 21 % above the value for the same quarter last year.
