Kingston Rule-1 Well Spuds

Orca Energy Limited (ASX: OGY) is pleased to announce that its first unconventional gas exploration well, the Kingston Rule-1 well, has been spudded by Orca’s JV partner and operator, Senex Energy Limited (ASX: SXY) in PEL 115 in the Cooper Basin.

As at 0600 hours this morning, a 17 ½ inch diameter hole had been drilled to 602 metres. The well will be drilled to 745 metres where 13 ⅜ inch surface casing will be landed and cemented.

The well will be drilled to a total depth of approximately 2,900 metres. Orca holds a 20% interest in the permit and is free-carried through the drilling of the well by Senex.

The Kingston Rule-1 location in PEL 115 has been selected to target the greatest net thickness of potential shale, siltstone and tight sandstone in the Roseneath-EpsilonMurteree targets, as well as potential net pay in the Patchawarra tight sand intervals. Review of the Hornet-1 offset well, located 2.5km due south from the Kingston Rule1 location, has identified net sand pay throughout the well-developed Patchawarra channel sands. Coring intervals for Kingston Rule-1 have been proposed through the Roseneath Shale, Epsilon Formation, Murteree Shale and multiple Patchawarra Formation sands to better understand the petrophysical nature of these shales, coals and tight sand reservoirs. The drilling of Kingston Rule-1 will be followed by a fracture stimulation program to realize the production potential of the unconventional gas reservoirs encountered in this well.

SHARE REGISTRY

The location of block PEL 115 is significantly strategic as it is surrounded by PEL 516, where Senex estimates over 100Tcf Gas-in-Place from shales and coals alone (Figure 1.). Senex recently announced a “material gas discovery” at Skipton-1, including more than 75 metres of net pay in the Patchawarra Formation and 164 metres of gas charged Roseneath and Murteree shales.
