Libourne – 2 October 2014 – Fermentalg, an industrial biotechnology company that specializes in the production of oils and proteins derived from microalgae, has announced that the definitive planning permission was obtained following the end to the period for third-party rights of appeal. The certificate of lawful development was issued today by Libourne city hall.
Built on the Fermentalg site in Libourne (33), the Industrial Development Unit will immediately be able to produce over 500 tons of microalgae oils per year, i.e. the equivalent of 1,200 tons of dry matter biomass.
The investment for the first tranche is estimated at €20 million, providing Fermentalg with an end-to-end integrated unit that covers every stage in the development process, from the identification of each individual strain through to the final product, on a site of close to 1.5 hectares.
The industrial design of the site will also enable Fermentalg to triple production in the future for a limited additional investment that is currently estimated at less than €10 million.
