EMERGENT RESOURCES ANNOUNCES EXPERIENCED BOARD APPOINTMENT
Diversified, exploration and development company Emergent Resources Limited ( ASX: EMG ) ( “Emergent” or “the Company” ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Nicholas (Nick) Martin to its Board as a Non‐ Executive Director. Mr Martin brings 20 years of mining industry experience with proven expertise in exploration, project development and financing.
Commenting on the appointment, the Company’s Executive Chairman, Wolfgang Fischer, said Mr Martin brings a unique and important skill set to Emergent’s Board.
“Nick has a unique blend of geological, project management and financing expertise that will be of significant value for Emergent going forward. In particular, Nick’s understanding of the iron ore industry here and globally, and of the steel industry, especially in China, will prove invaluable as Emergent moves forward with development plans for the Beyondie Iron Project .
“Nick’s banking roles have demonstrated significant levels of technical expertise, including the undertaking of country and management due diligence of over 150 mines or companies. He has particular strengths in detailed financial modelling and valuation, deal term negotiation, deal execution, syndication and mine technical risk analysis, which will make him a significant asset in the reshaping of the Emergent Board,” Mr Fischer said.
He said Mr Martin’s Board appointment is the first of several to occur in the first half of 2011 as the Board is restructured to comprise people with the necessary experience and the governance, technical, financial and other skill sets necessary to lead EMG into its next phase of dynamic growth and shareholder value creation.
Background
With a 1[st] class Honours in geology from Adelaide University, Mr Martin began his career in 1991 working as a geologist undertaking regional exploration and near mine resource development for gold, base metal, mineral sands and gem projects and mines in Australia and Indonesia for a number of leading mining companies.
After obtaining a Master of Business Administration in 1998, Mr Martin spent 10 years in investment banking focused on the resource sector holding senior position with N M Rothschild & Son (Australia), Westpac Banking Corporation, WestLB AG and Natixis Australia Ltd. His roles included the execution of structured project and mezzanine financing on minerals projects in Australia, New Zealand and Emerging Asia‐Pacific markets.
Currently, Mr Martin provides strategic investment advice aimed at linking Chinese metal consumers and investors with mining assets globally .
