EMERGENT RESOURCES ANNOUNCES HIGHLY EXPERIENCED BOARD APPOINTMENT
Diversified Western Australian, exploration and development company Emergent Resources Limited ( ASX: EMG ) ( “Emergent” or “the Company” ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Stuart Hall to its Board as a Non-Executive Director, effective 20 May, 2011. Mr Hall brings more than 35 years of mining industry experience with proven expertise in major project development, management and financing.
Commenting on the appointment, Emergent Resources’ Executive Chairman, Wolfgang Fischer, said “Mr Hall is highly regarded and brings a wealth of mining experience to Emergent’s Board”.
“Stuart is another important appointment to the restructured Emergent Resources Board. He brings particular strengths in project development, strategic relationship management, operations management as well as mergers and acquisitions,” Mr Fischer said.
“His management experience with large scale projects in Australia and internationally will be well utilised as Emergent moves forward to development of its Beyondie Iron Project”.
“In particular, his recent experience in leading the team which realised the three billion tonne iron ore resource at Crosslands Resources’ Jack Hills project in Western Australia will be invaluable as we move to expand the Beyondie resource base,” Mr Fischer said.
Background
Mr Hall was previously the CEO of Crosslands Resources, where he took the Jack Hills iron ore resource from 100 million tonnes to three billion tonnes and lead technical studies that crystallised a world scale beneficiation project at Jack Hills.
Prior to that, Mr Hall was the CEO of Marathon Resources, where he successfully raised $15 million for further development of the Mt Gee, low-grade uranium project in South Australia.
Previous to his stint with Marathon, he spent a total of 12 years with WMC Resources and then BHP Billiton following the Xstrata/BHP Billiton takeover of WMC.
During his lengthy career at WMC Mr Hall’s roles included that of Divisional Manager Planning (Nickel and Gold) and General Manager Industrial Minerals, before being appointed to the position of WMC’s General Manager Business Development.
During his time with WMC, Mr Hall was one of WMC’s nominated directors on the board of Mondo Minerals, a 50/50 European talc joint venture. He was also intimately involved in the WMC takeover defence, following the initial bid by Xstrata and subsequent successful takeover by BHP Billiton.
One of his achievements in his latter role at WMC was the successful re-structuring of the Corridor Sands titanium dioxide mineral sands project in Mozambique. This led to BHP Billiton offering him the role of Project Director at Corridor Sands after the WMC acquisition. Mr Hall held that position for two years, taking the project to completion of a bankable feasibility study.
